Hello I have over 250 skydives and 3 night jumps and am interested in starting in base. I was just wondering if you all could recomend a good canopy. I was thinking a Apex Flix 354. I am 6'5" and 280lbs.

Don't want to hurt your feelings, but at your weight you are on the very edge. I'm 6'3", 215 lbs., and my size limits what objects I can jump within an acceptable level of risk. When you're over 200+ lbs. and jumping 300+ sqft. canopies, things have a tendency to happen on a much more amplified level than they will for the average sized jumper on a 240/260. You're more likely to sustain injuries at 200+ lbs., because you're weight/mass creates more energy when you strike something.

I'm thinking that a canopy that size won't be too easy to come by unless you take a manufacturers FJC and they have a canopy you can rent/borrow. And that said, you're probably better off taking the course and jumping a couple models if they have many in that size before you decide to just up and buy one. Probably not too easy to get rid of a canopy that size if you don't like it and/or break yourself, too.

jump on the UK board, basejumper.org, there's a jumper out there they call 'hippo' who's a big dude. he can give you some advice from real world experience.

in general though 354 is a ridulous sized canopy to base jump with. it wont turn for shit and will open and pressurize even slower. You'll have to limit your self to higher altitudes and if you have a 180 good luck turning it around. at least you'll hit slow.

    I wouldn't go bigger than a 310.

Are you a body builder or fat?

Hey TREE- how much do you weigh 260 don't you?

I would take it seriously; but it's serious and ridiculous at the same time. -sl

I am not fat but I do Play Football so I am big. I will be slimming down in the next year to around 240 for various reasons so maybe I should wait and see at a leaner size. Thks for the input guys and I will look into talking to Hippo.
