My name is Paul, I am 19 and from Canada. I recently passed my PFF course and am now able to skydive. I have about 2 jumps out of my PFF. I know I need many more jumps before I can attempt BASE, but I was wondering what would be the best way to get into the sport. I asked my Instructor but he said for me to never do it and that he would like to see it outlawed so I wont ask him. I was wondering where to go for more information. Im in the same situation about Dave that has just posted on the site. Thank you again for helpong me out.

My thoughts on getting into BASE are at: http://www.blincmagazine.com/cms/article_283.shtml

With your location, it ought to be fairly easy to find some active BASE jumpers to discuss it with.

Try this link as a place to start: http://www.paratechrigging.com/Home/home.html

Be sure to find your local jumpers fairly early (well before you actually want to start BASE jumping).

    Stay safe, and have fun.

    Hey Paul

I suggest buying BASE equipment as soon as you want to regardless of whether or not you have met the prerequisites. You can learn a lot jumping over and into water... including body position and canopy stuff and deep brakes customizing. BASE is much different than skydiving and while they each complement each other there is much that you will not learn from skydiving and there are lots of bad habits you could pick up skydiving. if you start the bASE stuff sooner, you will get more out of your skydives and you will get more parachute rides for your money. skydiving is a total luxury... all that time and air space, that is fun. Really fun. There is only one way to gain experience. I think that the qualifications provided on the board for BASE is a great goal and good guidelines and suggestions. I just jump sooner than all that, this mite not be the smartest way to go, but it is a way to go and it is a way that is rarely mentioned on the board so i just wanted to speak up cuz you are 19 and few teens base jump so if you are ready and comfy then get started with BASE and skydiving simultaneousley and you mite learn a lot.

    Or you might die trying.
Why would you want to rush something like that? IMHO, the above is BAD ADVICE. Take it if you want--BASE has always been an individual sport, and you might survive...
I would suggest focusing on skydiving for 300-500 jumps(minimum)--trust me. You'll like it. LEARN HOW TO FLY A CANOPY!!! I don't care how many skydives you have--if you don't know how to fly a canopy properly, you WILL kill yourself BASE jumping. I would HIGHLY recommend getting serious about cRW. Learn about your gear. Learn how to pack. Ground crew for your local BASE thugs. And ask a chitload of questions.
    Don't be extreme; be smart.

I would like to believe you are not serious. There is a reason starting BASE at the same time as skydiving is *near certain* death. Think about what that means. No longer alive. Need I say more.

Take a good look at Toms and MotherHucker's suggestions. I must highly agree with hucks message that the above is bad advice. Using your own brain, you probably figured that out already.

300 to 500 jumps is not that many skydives. It's tons of fun and it's a whole lot easier to get altitude. Parachutes are a beast the take a lot of practice to fly safely in the BASE environment. Did I mention it's FUN??? Seriously ... it kicks ass.

    Take care

Call Vertigo at 435 259 1085 Jimmy and Marta own the company and are great people. I live in Moab and work with them from time to time.
Check out their website at vertigobase.com
You'll find everything you want here. Basically they take you to Idaho to a very friendly, legal bridge. I believe it's 450+ or --.
