Slim's recent incident and past one's I've had
happen to me or one's I've witnessed point to a
pretty pressing issue within the base community -
rescue. This has always been a key point used by
the policing agencies against our sport. Of
course, we simply cannot have the same equipment
but shouldn't this issue be addressed?

CPR & paramedic training seem essential for us
and anyone one us could do it. However, the lack
of equipment seems to be a key point. A foldable
stretcher seems like it would be absolutely
necessary (a body board that can be unfolded to
    attach a person to).

About the only thing I do is carry bolt cutters
in my car so I can remove any locks required for
    a rescue.

    Any thoughts???

Apart from the normal first aid kits and radios... maybe carabiners, slings, climbing harnessses, firefly PLB lights, cyalumes, spare clothes for the guys on the ground,a tri band mobile phone was one idea...even if its one thats just kept in your "BASE bag" and never used...just some suggestions..my knowledge is minimal,i do have a lot of knowledge on mountain rescue to draw from...not specific to BASE but principals apply i suppose..SLIM i met you in KL and you were nothing but a good egg...stay strong mate!

In addition to rescue, generalities in first aid are good to know. Few will actually go to a first aid course, but the obvious stuff should be reiterated; DONT move the injured party. theres nothing you can do to help them. Check to make sure theyre still breathing and have a heartbeat (carotid in neck is best if accessible). If their still alive, dont move them or touch them, just monitor breathing and heartbeat, cause if it stops youre gonna have to put together a few old memories on cpr. If cpr is necessary move them as little as possible, using several people to keep the head/neck in line with the spine, dont twist the spine. move them as a coordinated group from head to hips. Cover them to keep them warm. and obviously get help. Like lifeflight. cya.
