How many jumps is a BASE canopy/rig good for? I know there are lots of variables to consider but what about an average # of jumps. Also, how do you determine the value of used gear?? If the life expectancy is say 600 jumps and you have put 300 on it, would this mean that the gear is worth half as much as new gear or the price of the gear originally? Yeah right! Is there some sort of equation to use to determine the value??
    Thanks, Jason

I'd say that (as with skydiving gear) the number varies widely. However, with BASE gear, you can't just jump the shite until it blows up.

I just send my gear back to the manufacturer for airworthiness inspections every year, whenever it takes (real or potential) damage, or when I'm worried about it.

Then again, anyone who's seen my (twelve patches, forty water landings, three tree landings, 300 jumps) Fox, knows that airworthiness is in the eye of the beholder.

In terms of value, I'd say that you ought to just use the good old capitalist method--try to sell it and see if anyone is buying. From experience, I can say that $1200 for a pin rig and BASE canopy in good condition appears to be on the low end (twelve offers in 24 hours).

    hey jason,
don't know about most containers, but i'm sure that THE BANDIT container by RIGGER-MORTIS is good for a couple of thousand jumps.not only is he super handsome, but he can sew like one of KATHY LEE'S sweat shop slaves.
