63 feet!!!!! Is that the record really for lowest jump? Du.. DAMN!! I have seen guys cliff jump into the ocean from 50'. So why not just do it with a rig on. Lets break this record people!!!

That's 63 feet over solid earth.

Low altitude jumps don't count toward the "record" unless their made over hard, break your legs, put you in the hospital, don't tell your mom, solid ground.

I wouldn't suggest going out and breaking this record, unless you're willing to break some other things in the process.

Yep. However, his repeated 156' freefalls over solid earth from an 'S' in the Northwest United States definitely DO count, making him the low freefall champion.

We are already at the point where you can make jumps into water down to the point where you need no rig to survive. Now lets' work on improving the technology and skills so that we can reach the same point over land (i.e. when you're low enough not to get canopy, you're low enough to walk away without it). That's my personal (and eventual--maybe 10 more years) goal for ultra low freefall.

As I remember it, Duane's jump of 63 feet was made over knee deep WATER. Yes, he would have broken legs if the canopy didn't open, but a pound in is much less severe when you have even a little bit of water. Hard earth is another story. With basically no time to flare, the water made the difference.
So, I don't think we should count 63 feet as the base record. I would like to know who holds the REAL record over dry, dirty, hard earth. Probably the same nut, but I think we should post the actual height.
Come on everyone, you need to get up pretty early to slip one past the record keeper!

I'm probably mistaken, but I thought the 63 ft was the indoor jump in the UK (The one best described as a religious experience).

That is not correct Mr. Aiello. The UK jump you speak of took place in St. Pauls Cathedral, and it was 102 feet above solid ground. This may very well be the ultimate record, and the fact that it was indoors with church pews all around, makes it even more hard core. I also would not count the statue in Rio, as the ground slopes away, and the actual landing area was MUCH lower than the statue base (no pun). I believe that was around 93 feet to the base, but the Record Keeper does not count that.
So, what do we have here....anybody want to step up with some more info? Tom, didn't you just get done with a super short freefall (like 10-11 feet!!!!) out of that tree in Europe?? Ha Ha, just joking.

Well Craig, I would first like to know about this hard carpet...how hard is it? Plush, low shag, high-low, indoor outdoor, I need more info.
I must agree that 2 feet is pretty damn low, did you go static line, pca, what?? How about the landing, stand up, pound in? Did you suffer rug burn? And most importantly, would you take this chance again?
I hope our younger readers don't follow the reckless examples set by some of our fellow BASE jumpers, these people are very experienced and skilled. Let's not go out and see how low we can go, someone will end up paying the ultimate price. (I was setting up a static line off of the ceiling fan, until my mom came in the room and gave me a time-out, she just never seems to understand, I could have pulled it...)

10 years huh? I would suggest you start opening a little higher, and learn how to flare. 10 years is a long time to stay alive, and at the rate you have been going, it looks debatable. You might fly your wingsuit like a goat, but I bet a goat could land better!! Ha Ha! (I'm just kidding Tom, you fly it like an ATHLETIC goat.)

How can you walk away from a jump that was just high enough to almost get a canopy out?? That is at least 40 feet. I don't know of anyone who could walk away from a fall of 40 feet. f you figure this out, let me know, I have a policy I would like to take out in your name....

if its raining the ground will be wet so you will be jumping in to water not hard dry earth.... !!!!!!!
