You may be alarmed to see a link titled "Lady Liberty Parachutist Lands in Jail." Don't be. It's not BASE jumping or parachuting related. It's about a bungee jump that didn't even happen. Pretty lame.

Why do they say things like it was base jumping. Just to get people in trouble and make a bad name for you all that do it. It was uncalled for to even bring base jumping into it. I am sorry for you all that have to be talked down to in the media....
That "Lady" has been jumped at least three times.
Fredrick Law did it first in 1912. Freddy was a steeplejack who thought the publicity would aid his failing business. He wound up repeating the jump for newsreel cameras (the REAL TV of the day) and collecting $1500 for his efforts.
He also jumped from the Brooklyn Bridge and The Banker's Trust Building on Wall Street. Freddy could have been BASE number one if he had jumped a cliff.
In the mid-80s Nic Feterris, from Australia, found his way into the torch and static lined himself into the park below.
As for Fan-Man II, well you gotta love it when he says, "This is a form of artistic expression."
I can't wait to see the next NPS morning report!

Nick:
You know so much interesting stuff about the history of this sport.
When are you going to write a book so the rest of us can learn some of it?
A book on BASE jumping?
Hm, let's see, how would one begin such a thing?
"The night was moist . . ."
:-)

Does anyone really think he was going to land on the torch and try to jump off of it? CNN.com has the footage, and the landing is almost impossible. Plus do you think he would risk the loss of his paramoter (over $7,000) just for this impossible stunt? I think he was flying around it for fun and got too close, totally screwed!!!
Yes, it seems hard to believe he'd think, "Oh well, I'll just crash into the thing and hang on."
It just goes to show how far "extreme"" has come.
Something pretty much only we did (laying it all on string, rag and savvy) has become the soup de jour.
Someone the other day said BASE jumping has become the unscrewable pooch. However, I think we survive every crisis and setback and thrive due to two reasons. We've gotten better at what we do, and the rest of the world is crazier than we are
Nick :-)
yeah... how _IS_ the book coming?? I want a copy when you're finished.

Yeah, write it dude. I'll buy two! --Dex
*>then bungee jump to the ground. He had BASE jumping equipment in his possession.
now was that Base jumping equipment or bungee equipment? would love to see if the evidence list from the sceane confirms this.(should be on record anyone know where we can get it). if it does not have base equipment on the list, dont hold your breath for the nps to print a retraction of this slur in the next morning report.
i presume that this time he will be done for the usual "arial delivery" and i would guess that they will 'find' some damage to prosecute him for.
