I saw this at a loft a few years ago. It was on an old skydiving rig. Basically, instead of doubling up the webbing, one on top of the other, and going around the leg, the two pieces spread to be side-by-side. They were sewn between the two pieces, forming a natural arc to form a comfortable fit around the leg. Seems like it would be better for BASE jumping.
