Did you know that prior to Dar Robinson's jump off the CN Tower in Toronto, Canada, the jump was offered to Canadian parachutist/stuntman Bill Cole?

He did a test jump June 22, '79, was an helicopter to see how his Lancer would open and didn't like the slow opening, so the jump the next day was cancelled.

Later he was in negotiations with the Tower to try again, but says he holding out for 6 figures. Dar Robinson came up and jumped it for $25,000 cdn. for the tv show 'That's Incredible' (with Cathy Lee Crosbie - now that's incredible!). At that time the cdn $ was worth more than the US $.

Bill later called Robinson up to tell him he should have held out for more money, it was worth a lot more. Dar said, "Yeah, you're probably right but I really wanted to do it."

Isn't it amazing the things we don't do....

And did you know that the very first jump from the CN Tower was done in 1974, while it was still under construction, by one of the construction workers, a former paratrooper who smuggled a 28-foot military backpack emergency chute to the top and then jumped?

There were pictures, he was fired, and he shrugged it off, saying, "I can get a job anywhere but this is the only place I could do this!" He said he did it because he just missed jumping.

You know, I don't want to sound like a cheap date or anything but I'd jump that thing for the bargain-basement rate of $10,000 (U.S.). I know, I know. . . it is much less than market price but hey I like the object and I have some time slots in my schedule right now that I'd like to fill with paying jumps.

Oh, and I'd happily smoke it into the dirt for an extra $5,000 bonus. Repeat performances only $2,500 each, limit 10 total in a 3 day period.

If only. . . ;-)

Do you know of any books/magazines/publications that mentions the Yosemite NP El Capitan jumping that was filmed for "That's Incredible"? I am looking for anything that either illustrates and/or writes about the group of guys jumping off El Capitan in Yosemite National Park for that show.
