Like, try actually making a basejump once rather being groundcrew, and maybe youll get it.

HELMET POLICE
"mind your own business"
Contrary to your implied handle, I was not being a helmet policeman, I do not force my beliefs on others unless they pay me to. If you read and try using some comprehension you may get the hint that Im trying to get 1000 words for the picture, and also what is the logic behind kneepads and no helmet (treat that as the subject), no helmet is not the subject. In no way am I getting down on them for no helmet.
Dennis and Harry are big boys, They well know the ins and outs of battle gear. So once again, what was the logic behind wearing kneepads and no helmet? Its a fair question.
Ive jumped and worked with both of them and they are my friends, so that busts your statement of mind your own business. And it is a great shot..The foto I mean.

Okay, I did make a base jump, I still dont get it, can you elaborate?
You certainly arent helping the picture get a 1000 words with your one sentence. Apparently only BASE396 and I feel that that it is worth a 1000 words.
That brings the total amount of words to 273.

That thing on Harry's left leg is a knee 'BRACE', not a knee 'pad'.
He's had an injury, surgery, etc., that knee is a bit weak.
You can't see his right knee, it's naked.
Well I've been called a big boy more than once (mostly in the locker room), so that makes me qualified to answer I think.
I often jump with knee pads and no helmet. If a landing area is sketched out with little anklebreakers scattered about, it isn't a rare thing for me to land and skid a knee versus trying to outrun the little buggers (yes, good canopy pilots always standup land and never trip, but in the real world sometimes we tumble). Otherwise, I might be ok with the jump itself in terms of not being helmeted. I can think of one overhung rock pillar that I jumped which didn't call out (to me) for a helmet, but did call out for kneepads due to a reasonably ghetto landing. I did drag a knee and was happy for my pads.
I've also been told stories of folks ruining a knee during an otherwise good landing by hitting a sharp rock in just the right way after a minor stumble and doing permanent damage. Then again, I've been through three knee surgeries after a rock climbing "mishap," and the thought of extra knee surgery makes my tail curl firmly between my legs. Ouch.
Then again, my kneepads were stolen in November and I still haven't replaced them. Which isn't good, but hey I'll get around to it sooner or later. And I don't own a helmet just yet.
Besides, everyone should always wear a helmet anyway. It is way safer, and brain injuries really, really suck. If I had half a brain, I'd always jump with a helmet, and with knee pads. So that proves that once and for all, doesn't it?
Is that 1000 words? Shall I go on? You know I could. . .
Peace,

Happy Year of the Horse!
I must be a wuss becuase I always jump with knee pads and helmet. Recently I started wearing solid ankle braces on every jump. And when I can, I wear elbow pads, I just can't climb antennaes with them. Oh and I tried on Sebastians back brace in KL and it felt really comfortable and didn't hinder me in any way, so I've got a Dainese motorcycle brace on order, should show up any day. And a protec is really a crap helmet, try a skiing helmet instead, they also keep your ears warm in northern winter conditions. I can also wear all this stuff under a skyflyer as well.
Oh yeh, goggles too. Tree landings can cut your face up. And get a hard steel case for your mobile phone, so it isn't crushed when you try and call your buddy to pick you up after creaming in if you insist on solo jumping.
The first time I saw anybody wear serious body armour was in 1990 and it was Dennis McGlynn himself. He's my friend too :-) He was wearing a helmet and knee pads. He chose to land in the gnarly rocks off the Rostrum, I did a standup in the sand.
Dennis, stay in touch. I'm at lukas@skydive.se. Space, you too.

If I recall it correctly, wasn't Avery saying at Petronas last year (when we were sitting at the landing area and discussing how to continue with the event:
"..when I go jumping, I always wear a helmet..." ??
;-)
Yeah, he's got that tortoise shell one that he wears on every jump.
time in jail for "illegal air delivery"? HUH?
thanks dennis for the inspiration and for having so much -damn- fun with it.
your the grandaddy, dude!
