Apologies in Order

Dear BASE Board Readers

There’s an old saying that everyone needs an editor and it should be obvious from some of my posts on this Board over the last year or two that this definitely applies to me.

What’s ironic is that there IS an editor on this Board – Mick’s programming to remove certain words and terms if they’re used and replace them with “###.”

Unfortunately, I’ve done what lots of other people do – misspell or add characters so that the program doesn’t screen them out. In so doing, I’ve made this Board profane, uncouth and nasty in ways that Mick tries to prevent.

So, first and foremost, I apologize to Mick for circumventing his editing system and making his Board less civil than it otherwise would be. Along with that apology goes a pledge to never again circumvent that system. I’ll either leave those words out or spell them properly and let the system “edit” my comments.

Second, I apologize to everyone who reads this Board for the same reason. Another of the ironic things is that a significant part of the acrimonious debate on this Board has revolved around me castigating the kids for not setting and/or observing a high professional standard of public conduct with regard to legal events – and then I set an incredibly low standard for such conduct on this Board! Duuuhhh….

Third, I apologize specifically to Doug and Gardner for ignoring their previous advice and criticisms from them on this subject. They were right then, they’re still right, and while their public profanity and/or physical threats on the “L.A. Times” thread were ironically and comically just as unprofessional and low-class as what they were ragging on me for, it doesn’t in any way diminish the validity of their points.

Fourth, I apologize to Anne Helliwell for blasting her again over the Petronas thing. I made my point adequately in the past, and SHE wasn’t the one posting on the Board. All I can say is that when her boyfriend lifted his leg on me, it just riled me up and I went off on her again. I do want to make it clear that, whatever displeasure and aggravation I feel over our business dealings, what she did in no way, shape or form outweighs the significant contributions she’s made to the fixed object jumping community over the years and I respect and appreciate her for them.

By stooping to paint in your genre I had hoped to show you just how offensive, disgusting and ridiculous words can sometimes seem. I had also hoped that my response depicted the level of revulsion I felt when I saw the horrid colors and unrefined brush strokes with which you had painted your latest sloppy work. Your above apology is much better and more inline with your regular style - but not without some defensive jabs, I see. I suppose contrition is hard for you.

While all of us in this grand sport may be society’s least likely people to ever be hurt by words, we still have feelings – whether we choose to express them or not – and each of us bears the onus of treating our fellows with respect regardless of differences in opinion or conflicts arising out of business dealings.

Name-calling is immature - even when cloaked in elitist speak or by use of military lexis concocted to further the denigration of females: your training is evident. You know as well as I do that your backpedaling follow-up statements over your intended use of THE offensive word (herein not named) as an acronym hold little merit: that word is, and always has been, a reference to the female pudenda (and never has been a positive reference, at that); any definition or purported use to the contrary is simply and unequivocally overshadowed by the popular view – which is terribly offensive in the context you created.

I hope that this is a newly-turned leaf for you, and that you will abide by it, but I must admit that I’m cautiously pessimistic. Until such time as you crap your sheets with yet another keyboard spew I will accept your apology on a probationary basis.

Though I don´t always agree with Robin, He always has had and does have the ummmm Balls to apologize..Unlike many others..

Isn´t it Ironic that he was speaking about this type of childish post on this forum and the very thing you don´t like about him, you are doing yourself... It´s ok, you become exactly what you hate..not one to be judgemental, I wish you fun with your kid view..

I have never really known anything about the politics surrounding that Robin guy but for some reason most of his posts seem to really annoy me. Apologizing? Seems like another cry for attention to me.
Oh yea, and quit writing freakin novels for a post! Jeez!

Rarely and I mean rarely do I agree with anybody....hence I won't start now.

Gardner speaks for many....no I can't say that he spoke alone(cheers) with many nods in silence....and that's sad in and of its self...

Guess I was sitting here thinking of this really obnoxious chap I knew and jumped with alot...actually someone who I didn't really know or even tolerate....(rare)....my mistake...

Last time I heard from him... he was annoying me about why I should get gear for him....NOW and I mean Now...

Last time I saw him(24 hours later).... I pulled a tree limb out of his chest at work....


Funny how we sometimes forget that it's all about living.
