Okay this is what happend. It was just three of them who jumped. I don't know who exactly. It was very very foggy out from what i hear. Lee jumped and, we think, he could tell how low he was due to the fog. He pulled his pilot chute but that was the only that got out. It was too late for his canopy.

I am so sorry to hear this. Condolences to his friends and family. Does anyone know of a preferred charity to which donations in his honor can be made?

    Peace,

Condolances to Lee's parents, family, teammates, and friends. I was very shocked today when I got a phone call with the news. I was only just getting to know him, but he was quickly becoming one of my favorite BASE friends. He was always so full of life and love for the sport, I almost wondered if he was hyperactive or something. :) From some of the stories I've heard, it sounds like there was never a dull moment with Lee.

I'm very glad I got to see him jump his Tigger suit, and he also did the best aerial I've seen so far when he did a triple back somersault of the Perrine. I was quite impressed! I admit, impressing me isn't difficult, but that triple back was really something.

Lee was doing a 3-way with some international visitors. He was apparently the low man, and there was fog, so his ability to judge his distance to the ground would probably have been impaired. I bet he was pissed when he saw the ground appearing through the fog, knowing he wasn't going to get inflation before he reached Earth.

I wish I had been there. I would have stayed with his body until the authorities arrived. Good journey to you, Lee! You were a bright spot in the lives of many, and you lived more than most folks do in 80 years. I'm sure the trip for you is amazing! I believe it is amazing for those that are fearless.

And as Lee would say, "BR where EVER you are!

    Love,
    Karen

    Mimi --

My condolonces to you and the rest of his family and friends.

I've known Lee for the last several years and his presence/personality always lightened up everyone's mood and he made a lot of people laugh.

I am deeply saddened -- we have lost a brother. But I also smile when I think about Lee's passion for jumping -- it meant a lot to him -- and it certainly made him smile.

    Fly free brother,

    Bryan

Well I just met Lee about a weekago, he was one of my JM for my first jump. Yesterday I went back to the DZ to do my level 2, I requested Lee. he was more than happy to make one last jump with me. I have only done 2 jumps, but everysecond I have (ever) spent in freefall he was next to me. I think that creates a unique bond. When a friend of mine told me what happened , i was in shock. Lee had already started taking me into the skydiving family, and he will be missed by many greatly. I looked forward to this weekend, he agreed to JM the rest of my AFF. He then signed my logbook for me, and then we talked for a bit, one of the last things he told me was that skydiving was more important than anything. I will continue to jump, finish my AFF. Skydiving is one of my dreams come true, as I am sure it was to him. I head out to the DZ this weekend, I will ask one last time for Lee to jump with me and I know he will be with me.

Lee my brother, you will be missed. 10-4

    Derek -

Thank you for posting your feelings and welcome to the wonderful of parachuting. Skydiving and BASE are related in many ways. Both share the same emotions with one of them simply being much more intense than the other.

I'm glad that you had the opportunity to meet Lee -- he obviously reached out and touched your life. Lee had a way of doing that!

Two weeks ago I had an AFF student who had made 6 AFF jumps, but hadn't made a jump in 4 years. He sat through one of our first jump courses and then we went up and made a jump together. That night, after the beer light was on, I talked to him some more to find out what brought back the desire for him to jump again.

He explained that he was a terrible student on his first couple of jumps and that he had planned on quitting...until another AFF instructor talked to him and urged him to continue the next day.

The next day, this student went up with his newfound instructor and he said that the instructor's personality and lively character gave him the ability to relax and do well. This instructor inspired him in many, many ways.

Confused, I asked, "Then why did you stop after 6 jumps?"

He replied, "My Instructor died on a tandem jump and I just didn't have the courage to continue."

His logbook was laying near by. I quickly grabbed it and opened it up to his last jumps. Chills ran down my spine...it was exactly who I thought it might be.

Seth Blake. (Seth was also a wonderful free-spirited BASE jumper who was a brother to many people on this Board)

Before I could say anything, the student said, "And then I realized that Seth loved jumping, it was his true passion. He would not have wanted me to stop jumping. And that is why I am here today."

Derek, I'm glad that Lee and his spirit reached out and inspired you.

And he will not be forgotten -- he's infected too many people over the years.

Best of luck in many jumps to come,

    Bryan

Lee was one of if not the best of friends, although we lived an hour and a half apart. He'd drop down south at the blink of the hat for a jump with his smokin' mate.
I jumped also at 0500 this a.m. , solo, wish I could have gotten that p.c. out a bit earlier.
I loved him and I will miss him
