I am very new to this so my questions will be basic!

I will hopefully be jumping my BASE canopy this weekend at the DZ and just wanted opinions on the set up.

I wont be using a D-Bag and will put on the mesh slider - i will use a standard Skydive PC and basically dump out the door of a cessna or a Turbine.

Should i really use a sail slider?
Should i rubber band the mesh slider to the C-lines? if so how much bite / wraps?

    Any other comments / suggestions?

    Thanks

    Michael

I've done the same with my canopy, expect LONG canopy flights (takes me forever to come down under canopy)...

If you're going out of a cessena, don't dump right away. You'll actually slow down from exit speed if you take about a 2-3 second delay. I've tried both types of exits, and 2-3 seconds worked the best. Expect everyone else in the plane to look out the door to watch your neck-breaker opening. It has become a past-time at my DZ when I jump my Fox.

Roll the nose completely. I normally use two wraps of the rubberband on the slider. I use my mesh slider and it gives hard, but managable openings. Doesn't even compare to slider down 3 sec delays. Also, 2 wraps of the rubberband on the lines tucked under the tail-pocket.

    Have fun.....

The way I do it may not help you much, because it is kinda "specialized". I use a BASE pin harness and container that has D rings on it where I put a chest mount reserve (it makes the DZO feel better). Then I use a sail slider, which I highly recommend as I assume you are just feeling out the canopy flight details. The opening won't be anything to compare to a base jump unless you take it to terminal, which i also have done with my setup - no different than a BASE terminal jump. I do recommend you use a sail slider especially if you are jumping a vented canopy, which I was. The other part of the equation is knowing someone with a "DZ" (In my case, I know a man with a plane and a ranch) who will let you "tempt fate" in such a manner.

That probably didn't help, but thats how I do it. I do think a sail slider is in order - why not?

I questioned the Sail slider as i wont be going to terminal and also people take mesh to terminal on BASE jumps............

I shall be putting this in a Skydive rig so not a worry about jumping at the DZ............ except perhaps some questions about my new larger canopy!!

    Thanks for the replies!!

    Mac,

    My two cents:

I would use a sail slider if you have one, if not, then mesh is ok. Might as well make the openings a little more comfortable.

Since your not using a D-bag, I would wrap the rubber-band twice at your primary stow (the one right before you put it in the tail pocket). And I would also rubber-band the slider to your left center C-line. You can do this by girth-hitching (larks knot) a regular tail-gate rubber band to the C-line where it is girth-hitched to the load tape. I prefer to wrap the rubber-band 3 times around the apex of the slider, about 1 inch down. Since your not using a D-bag (nothing wrong with this), you might as well stage the deployment as much as possible to keep everything in order during the deployment process.

Skydiving your BASE canopy is a great idea -- have fun!!!
