Funny, the author did not mention he has plenty of time to write while convalescing in body cast, from BASE jump misjudgement accident. Dorks teaching dorks, great. Flame away.

Actually, he makes no attempt to hide the injuries he has sustained.

Dorks teaching dorks? Half of that article seems to be written to talk people OUT of jumping. Somebody's gotta do it.

"Knuckle Head",

I just read Tom's article and I applaud him for his well written article and I give him a standing ovation for taking the time and effort to educate the masses that are trying to, or at least thinking about, getting into BASE jumping.

I've seen it coming for years: an exponential curve of the number of people wanting to get into BASE. In the very beginning, it was a super-duper underground society that was difficult to get into (nothing wrong with that in my opinion). Now that there are legal and publised objects that have very easy access (such as the Perrine), more and more people are wandering into the sport, without the proper tools, at an alarming rate.

I have seen an increased number of people at the Perrine this year making their first BASE jump under the supervision of another person that has 20 jumps himself. I've also seen people making their first jump under the supervision of another jumper that has 100 jumps, but 99 of those jumps are from the Perrine and one from some antenna in their backyard. These jumpers that are teaching people think they are experienced when in fact, they don't have any experience other than jumping the Perrine and one survival jump from a stick in the mud.

The public (skydivers) need ot be educated on what it takes to get into BASE jumping and understand the inherant risks involved.

Thank you Tom Aiello for taking the time to do this in a well thought-out article. We need more people like you who are willing to go the extra step for the sport and less people like "Knuckle Head" trying to bang down their progress.

I agree, it looks like a pretty good article.

For the original poster: Could you say more specifically what you don't like about the article, or is it just Tom you don't like?

Hey Knuck,
I made a lot of farckups in the late 80īs, since I didnīt die, it actually made me a better instructor than I would have been otherwise IMHO. See, it is all about passing along experience. Tom seems very good at this. Have you ever had to use your superior skills because you didnīt use your superior judgement?

Teaching from experience is not the same as learning by experience.
All of Tom's experience ain't never gonna learn me sh!t.

I really donīt get your point. I havenīt noticed a TA school of BASE around. Ohhhhh. I got it now! because Tom donīt bite anyone elseīs trolls or partake in flamage you think that your personal attack on him will make you the winner in the elusive "TA bit my Troll" Trophy hunt. Good luck!

But seriously, All youīve done is stirred up a lot of nice comments and support for the guy. Pretty cool 180° from what you wanted isnīt it. Keep up the good work!

Are you trying to enter into a theoretical argument or a personal attack on Tom?

I only met Tom for a 5 day road trip last year when we did some great jumps. He strikes me as a knowledgeable and friendly guy.

In contrast, I have read 2 of your posts and you seem like a complete wa*nker

I have only 5 (very easy) base jumps (but I've frozen my ass off groundcrewing a shitload more). And I haven't skydived in a year.

Is any of that at all relevant to having the ability to post a link correctly?

Hi rl.
"me" was posting "in response to" #1 post, not to you, hope this helps clarify. Your patriotism for our sport remains unchallenged.

Hi Trace,

I am #1 post. :) The original post is #0.

I shouldn't have answered him, but I always blather at the keyboard when I'm overwrought. I think I'll forego posting about it on this board though; I'd shoot myself if *that* thread into a pissing contest.

If he hits me again, I won't be here to see it. I'll call you from somewhere along I-80 and you can read it to me.

143,
rl
