Nik's memorial + memorial jump

The memorial service for Dr. Nik will be held on Sunday, August 11th at 4pm in Portland, Oregon. The location is the Wilhelm Funeral Home, info at:

Nik's family has invited his jumping friends to come and share a story about Nik with all of his friends. The service will be informal in nature.

After the service, we will be heading out to the Gorge for a memorial jump in Nik's honor from one of his favorite objects. Sunset is at 8:26pm, so we'll leave Portland around 7pm.

In the evening, there will be a celebration of Nik's life. Details will be available at the memorial service.

If you need more information please contact me and I'll help out any way I can. I will be planting a tree on my property in memory of Nik; if anyone wants to bring something else to plant, I'll put them all together and create a little grove of life to honor him.

It troubles me greatly that I will be unable to attend. However, I plan to have a Swiss Memorial gathering for Nik.

I haven't settled yet if I will drive or fly to Portland. If there is anyone in Northern California who needs a ride to get to the service, that would settle me on driving.

Forgot to mention: if anyone coming in for the service needs a place to stay on Saturday or Sunday (or thereafter), my house is yours. I live about 30 minutes out of the city, and have plenty of room for folks. I'm not as good a host as Nik was (who is?), but I'm going to work hard to get better.

For folks who cannot make Sunday's service, I encourage you to come out when you can to Portland and jump with us in Nik's honor. I know several groups of jumpers will be coming through in the next few weeks, and we'll "raise a pint," have some laughs, and maybe even jump off some stuff with Nik in our hearts.

In other words, if you can't make it Sunday please don't have regrets - make time to come out when you can, and we'll celebrate him over and over again.

My house is open to anyone who wants to come out and spend some time. I don't have a key under a hedgehog, but I do have a few spare rooms that I'd love to share with visiting friends.

Doug- I will take you up on that offer sometime in the near future. I wish I could have made it for the service. Nik was the mentor of all mentors. The Seattle crew will be jumping our biggest in Nik's honor on Monday. My heart goes out to all his friends and family.
