    hey

anybody out there have experiance with bilaterial femur fractures? Due to a very drunk b**** i now have rods and pins in both femurs.(along with some broken bones in my feet, hand and face) My question: Has anyone had experiance with jumping with this type of hardware in their legs. I'm having a bit of trouble finding info on said matter. My doc says no more but I thinks he is not as knowldgeable as he thinks!

    thanks;-)

Yes Paul. I have plenty of info, X-rays, Dr's recommendations (negativity, that I jump against) and that stuff to discuss. and I will slip some out here in public.
I broke BOTH femurs in a DRUNK accident ZIP LINING down a TOWER's guy wires. it was too windy to jump that day (my 20th birthday), so I thought rather than risk wind, I would play it safe and drink all day. well, I have a tendency to gravitate toward HIGH places, and play with gravity. 2 very bad ideas when drunk. After I BROKE a rock climbing carabiner on a spliced wire, I woke up 4 days later in intensive care. blah blah blah REHAB blah blah blah X- rays blah blah blah WHEELCHAIR blah blah blah CANE blah blah blah finally could walk on my own, after 2 1/2 months. yeah, that fast. the docs said my fractured skull helped my body grow new bone tissue faster, and that I had healed faster than they had seen before. 3 months after breaking myself severely, I was well enough to walk, and run around again. so, I went for a skydive. and, when deployment, flight, and landing went fine, I said to ma sef:
sef, you be good enough to be jumping that tower you be packed up for. So I DID. jump #36 was my first jump back from broken legs. it went great. though I wasn't current packing, so I had to wait until Perrine to test my pack jobs again.
Don't listen TOO much to TOO MUCH negativity from the doctors. If they told you that you were OK to BASE jump again, and you had problems, THEY would be LIABLE, and you could technically SUE them, saying " Well THEY told me I would be fine...blah blah blah" I like to think BASE jumpers would never do this, but docs can't believe people are this crazy to begin with. Docs recommend a healhty person NEVER to BASE jump, based on the inherent danger in the sport. read the rest of the warning label on most parachutes if you need more warning on DANGER.
anyways, hope it helps. When I get Jason some X-rays, I'll show people what MY broken femurs looked like. sending them in the mail, so maybe a week or two until they are on his page. with my story.....
    Peace out,
    Thomas Mauch :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)

I too broke my femur. It wouldn't have happened if I had a least one drink. I jumped with it many times after installing hardware. However, If you screw up and break that same leg again, you may easily die. Hardware justs shatters bone under extreme strain and those shards can easily tear the femural artery. And BTW, a shatter is much worse than a regular break.

For some people though, "alcohol and gravity don't mix too well."

    Hey Faber,

With respect to you, I respond because I think this guy is dangerous. He jumps wasted -- hell, he's required rescue at Twin Falls for god's sake. He was so ##### stoned that he leaped in the middle of the night in very ##### up conditions and was so trashed that he didn't even know which way he was flying. He crashed in the rocks on the WRONG SIDE OF THE RIVER!

He thinks people like Marty Tilley are ##### in the head. He thinks that Marty doesn't have an idea about how to Base jump safely. Who the ##### is Thomas Mauch?

Let's see. Just less than 100 jumps. So ##### up when he jumps at Perrine he can't even land on the right side of the river. On a different jump he spins into the river with a line-over following a self-proclaimed 8 minute pack job. At one time had a rig that was literally splitting open every time he disturbs it in the slightest way. And if it's true (I don't necessarily buy it) he's so wasted that he decides to climb an antenna and zip-line it.

He thinks the world is out to get him and he doesn't want to hear sound advice from jumpers who are among the most experienced in the world.

You know what? I don't retract one statement I made. This guy's a ##### idiot! Plain and simple.
