I have given 3 options for this POLL. I still intend to create a "Technical Only" forum. I actually already created it.

The Tech only forum allows registered users to post, but ALL postings get reviewed by a moderator FIRST! Then if the moderator approves them, they get posted. I actuall plan to use this for moving important posting from the BASE Board to this forum so people can easily find the technical data and create a great Knowledge BASE as mentioned by others.

That's an excellent solution to the problem of technical content, Mick. Well done. I know it's going to be alot of work. Thanks,

If I may, I suggest that your registration requires avalid email address and that some kind of verification code is sent to that address in order to activate the account.

I've never been sure how your "charter member" system works but maybe this level of membership should require that you have personal knowledge of the person or a reference from someone that you do know. Maybe a "membership moderator" in each state?

Again, I'm just spitballing in the hope that an idea is a good one or gives some other bright spark a notion.

We're on the right track here.

The only way this could fully work, is to get a moderator to review each new registered person.

Other than that, I would just have heaps more work to do.

None, except to volunteer my services if you need that moderator?

    Good luck!

Thanks for polling this question, Mick. It sure looks like most folks are ready for the change you have suggested.

    My only question is:

Do you have to have a BASE number to be a registered user with the ability to post?

    Thanks,
    Karen

Just my thoughts but I see no reason to restrict registration only to base numbers or even base jumpers - there are lots of people out there interested and the more hits, the more advertising dough... The thing about registration is that we know who said what and we can take steps to keep them off the board if they step over the line too many times...

Likewise I see no reason to delete threads that are 'off-topic' - there are other things we may wish to talk about then just strictly base-related stuff - as long as it's respectful of others there's no reason we couldn't discuss weather or anything, just so's it isn't upsetting to the mainstream audience that may read it...

Threads that are definitely Base-related could then be stored on the Technical knowledge forum for future reference, while the ordinary banter gets archived on the baseboard as per normal...

    Good job, Mick...

When I was trying to post my reply before it didn't seem to be going through, so I kept retyping and reposting it... Then when I looked at the board again, it had suddenly posted them all. And you can't just delete them, you can only edit them, so I had to type this to explain. Anyways...

Good job, Mick... Hope this isn't too much for you.

Theoretically it should reach a point where you don;t have to view every posting before it appears - you'd just have to delete an offensive one when you see it come up... Having the ability to ban the people posting by cancelling their registration would hopefully keep the offensive posts from appearing anyway... That would be why they call the position a monitor, not a censor...

I don;t know that much about it but that seems to be the way it works at dropzone.com

call me an iconclastic antisocial a$$hole, but i'm not interested in registering for much of anything. i MIGHT register if i stumbled on a bit of life-preserving info that simply cried out to see the light of publication, but maybe not.

Mick's provided a valuable resource here and it does see a fair bit of abuse, but that's life on the internet. Warhol had it right when he opined that 90% of everything was $hit. deal with it. people are going to post anonymous B.S. without regard to conventions of tact, taste, or electronic countermeasures.

i rather like my anonymity here and try not to step on too many toes in an effort to preserve it. many of my posts include e-mail info, and those who care enough to respond get replies in kind with firmer contact data.

call me an iconclastic antisocial a$$hole, but i don't much feel like registering for anything, much less access to a supposedly free forum. while deeply appreciative of all the effort you have put into this site, i keep Warhol's admonition that "90% of everything is $hit" firmly in mind while reading. it's an OPEN FORUM and should stay that way.

were i to stumble on a piece of vitally important info that simply cried out for publication in interest of preserving life and/or liberty, i MIGHT register. as for the rest, it's nice to have a place to put a shout out to the locals before arriving. those who reply to my published e-mail get replies with my name and numbers.

(relative) anonymity is GOOD. abuse of anonymity is bad but, in an internet forum, it's only as bad as the reader makes it. sticks and stones and all that rot....
