Should a solid 1 second delay with a handheld 42" vented be ok on a Gargoyle 2-pin? What about stowed? I've got similar jumps stowed same altitude on a velcro rig. Should be better with pin I figure, just curious though.

Why go 42 when you could go 46 or 48?

It'll work but it's not optimum.

Not sure I understand why you think going stowed makes a difference to your opening performance (unless it takes you a couple of seconds to find your pilot chute).

I agree, it should be slicker with a pin than a velcro.

I have 87 jumps over a 380f antenna with a warlock(2pin)&dagger 222+42 Zero p PC (I fly 11 to 12 seconds my canopy all the times) and 3 over a 295f antenna with a ZP 46 PC Hand deployment( I fly 6 seconds), and works great for me.
If you can start with a 46 and then use a 42.

I'm just more prone to take a touch of a longer delay stowed.

That's cool. So long as you know how much longer it takes you.

    Stay safe bro'.

Yes it will work but as Skinflicka says, it's not optimum. I've done 270 with about 1/2 second and a 46 vented pilot chute on a 2 pin perigee pro. Canopy time was 7.5 seconds. It was about the same results from 2 others with the same configuration. While Using a 42inch on the same rig, around 2 seconds from a height of 380 with a whole bunch of canopy time. Sorry I haven't timed that object but if I get off it in the next day or so I'll report the findings. If you are doing a 1 second, error toward the 46.

    Any one else?

From a 350 ft - 107 m object, I would definitely use a 46" ZP (AV or not, depends on which rig I am jumping - by the way, I own and jump two Prism's (1 pin rig)).
We have done lots of jumps off an A 328 ft - 100 m high, each one of us using a 46" ZP PC with 1" delay (my 3 mates with velcro rigs, myself and another friend with 1 pin rigs). No noticeable differences in opening speeds.
I agree with the other folks that a 42" COULD be used, but I really do not see which are the disadvantages of using a BIG 46" and which are the advantages of using a SMALL 42"... Still you can stow any of them, if you like to go stowed.
In the doubt of choice, off an object 350 ft - 107 m high with 1" delay, I would go for sure for a 46".
If packed properly and the right tension is exerted on the pin(s), a pin rig opens slightly faster than velcro rig (=once the pin(s) is pulled off, the container of a pin rig is fully open, while on a velcro rig the velcro of shrivel flap must be peeled all the way).

I am sure i remember speaking to one of the manufacturers about this and being told there was no real visible difference between a 46" and 42" PC at the short delay end...maybe Space or Tom A would care to comment..

FYI i dont use a 46" anymore for jumps over 250 ft...I use a six spoke ZP 42" PC from BR. :o

Does anyone here think canopy size (weight) play a part in PC selection? In particular when at a "critical" height.

I define critical as a height where oppinion on configuration varies enough for me to use the word.

    Peace be with you

Yo 698! Why don't ya plan on grabbin' that scary p/c of yours, and headin' out my way Friday nite...I'm pretty sure that the local "A" will be nothin' but swampland after all this rain, but we do have other options...Worst case scenario, we could always resort to some church oriented activities... }> Give me a ring bro........Vic

Have you been able to compare that to the same size size CR AV series? All my Pilot chutes are CR's Vented PC's
