TWO MEN SURVIVE LEAP Off EL CAPTIAN IN PARCHUTES . . .

YOSEMITE - Two Southern Caliornian men are in Memorial Hospital after recovering from injuries they recieved in a parachute leap from the top of El Capitan Rock in Yosemite Park here Sunday.
Ranger's said the pair, "Brian Schubert, 26, and Michael Pelky, 25, both of Barstow, California, jumped from the top of El Capitan about 5:PM Sunday after having hiked up the public path on the back side of the rock.
Pelky, who said he and Schubert stepped off together, delayed 1000-feet before deploying their round parachutes and did well until the updrafts repeatedly smashed them both into the cliff's face.
Park Ranger's first hear of the jump as motorists stop to report the injured Pelky laying by the side of the road.
Park Superintendent, John M. Davis, said, "It's the first time it's been tried, and I hope it's the last . . ."
