never mind,
stupid idea.

Thomas,
I am a lowtimer! That being said, let me see if I understand your question correctly.
You are asking if it's a good idea to route the brake lines completely outside the slider grommets and riser guide rings, for a slider up jump?
I feel, and I believe most if not all BASE jumpers would agree, that this is a bad idea. Aside from entanglement possibilities with this setup, the brake lines would not be helping to push the slider down.
If you configure this way, then you could be looking at a rather looooong opening. IMHO a snivel with this setup is more likely to occur than a lineover with a proper slider-up pack job. A blown toggle will be the least of your concerns if you're sniveling into the talus.
I think the general consensus is that if your brake lines are outside the slider grommets and guide rings, you'd better be planning on 3 sec. or less! (and leave the slider down.)
As long as you pack carefully, linovers are pretty rare on a slider up jump.
If any of you more experienced jumpers disagree with anything I've said here, please speak up, because maybe I'm off on this one.
Stay safe out there! ---Dex

Yo !
Thomas, please do keep your steering lines outside of the rings on all of your slider-up jumps. Trust me, this is the best thing you can do for you... and for all of us.
bsbd!
Yuri.
Your mesh slider will not readily come down. I had a friend who wanted to get into base and he did this little trick on a skydive to get used to the line mod. Guess what, his slider stayed up for >1000'. There is also a danger of damaging the tail, particularly on long delays, since that part of the canopy is not reefed.

We have 2 votes for lines inside the rings and 1 for outside.
What's the rationale for outside on slider-up?

please look up the meaning of
"tongue-in-cheek".
and also please consider hooking up with an experienced rigger / jumper that can help you understand why keeping your steering lines
outside of the rings on all of your slider-up
jumps is black death.

Somewhat new here. My bad.

I understand that part. That's why Yuri's comment threw me. I guess I haven't tuned in to his sense of humor yet (due to aforementioned "newbie-ism").
I'll shut up now.

Hey Yuri...given Thomas' rep on the board, this made me lmao. But even so, it's still BAD BOY, YURI! BAD BOY!!! Stop trying to kill Thomas, it's not nice!
Love,
K
Could be mistaken but wasn't this a contributing factor in the fatality at Courthouse? Apologies if I am mistaken.
Anyway, today is Friday and I am going jumping tomorrow-Yeehah!!!!!!!!!!

"Michael had packed for a slider down jump. At the last minute he decided to go slider up. He opened his already packed rig, stretched out the lines and pulled the slider up. However, besides not doing a full re-pack, he forgot to put the steering lines back through the slider grommets. The canopy opened in a turn and hit the wall hard before being fully inflated. He died a short time later from internal injuries."
