Sony Camera: DCR - IP7

Hi Everyone,

I am interested in buying a camcorder, the Sony DCR - IP7. I was wondering if someone out there has been using it either skydiving or base jumping. My concern is about the quality of image.

I bought an IP-5 and sold it immediately. I hate the Micro-MV (IP series) cameras.

The are incompatible with the mini-DV cameras everyone else is using (they use MPEG-2 compression instead of the DV codec) so you have to do analog transfers to get footage back and forth.

They are incompatible with all the good editing systems. Sony's Movieshaker is the only one that supports them, and (a) it sucks, and (b) I use a Mac, which they don't make it for.

The quality is good--at normal speed forward. Try to do anything else with the footage during editing, and you lose quality in a real hurry (it's a feature of the MPEG-2 compression--it doesn't actually record every pixel on every frame).

My vote--two thumbs down.
