Anyone have any experience jumping with snowskiing helmets? I am looking to replace my MIA protec half-shell (probably a blessing in disguise). Someone once recommended a ski helmet because they're a good combination of light weight and real protection.

So now I'm shopping for a ski helmet, but there are so damn many of em! I want something that will be useful on terminal/wingsuit jumps as well as day-to-day slider-off flickin. About $100 seems fair.

    Any ideas?

I have been using a Boeri for over 5 years now.
The only thing I don't like is the middle of summer. Very hot helmet then. But I think Burton and some others have created helmets that have larger vents than my Boeri has. So may remove this issue.

Coincidentally, someone just sent me this link today:

Seems to fit your criteria. I understand the visor is removable.

Have a look at downhill mountain-biking helmets - full-face, so it has a chinguard, and offers well tested protection.. You'll probably pick one up in a cycle shop for about 70-100 Dollars.

The only experience I have with jumping ski helmets is catching air in half pipes and off of kickers. Coincidently, I have a BMX helmet for that. I have thoroughly checked out both ski and BMX helmets, and the BMX offer a greater protection rating at a lower price. Paid $70 for mine.

I have thought about jumping with it many times, but have yet to try it. I too, am ready to get rid of my half-face, thinking that I could use the extra protection of the full, but I'm not completly sure I want to sacrifice the periferral vision and for it. Being a better helmet, it's also going to add more bulk, too.

I also have my skydiving Z1 as a choice as well, being a little smaller, but still less of a protection rating than the BMX.

    Choices, choices, choices.

I guess the most important thing you can take with you on any jump is A HELMET period and the common sense inside of it.

I have a Pryme helmet, in case you were wondering. It's taken some massive, bone-jarring face plants on icy slopes and its never done me wrong. I've got all...well, most of my teeth to prove it. It's a Pryme FF. Here's the link:

    Hope this helps.

I know its upping the price a bit but my OXYGN A3 let me walk away from a hard temple / sharp rock meeting. Its nicely cracked but my head isn't. I always jump it with no visor.........

Just for the record I'd like to offer the following bit of advice for those in the market for a BASE helmet:
Skydiving-specific helmets are not the best choice for BASE. They offer considerably LESS protection than a Pro-Tec or other thoroughly tested helmet. Also, don't think that the harder the the shell the better the protection--In many cases, the hard outer shell will transfer much of the imact force straight to your brain. THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IN HELMET SELECTION IS THE LINER. If you can find something with a rating (ie: Snell, etc.)
    You wioll be better off.
