I was just wondering if anyone knew the experience level and number of jumps that the latest striker had. Anyone in Moab perhaps? The local authorities are really starting to frown on our little activites.

    Yeah Wes,

The guy is a very good and very well known canopy pilot in skydiving, and a very nice guy.

I believe his BASE jumping experience is low - around 10 jumps. I also believe this is his 2nd or 3rd foot/ankle injury due to BASE jumping.

I don't know any of the details surrounding the incident other than it being a cliff strike.

30% injury rate. I would say this person needs to go fire his instructor, get about 200 MORE F-111 7-Cell canopy skydives, or seriously think about "NEVER" base-jumping again.

    I second that one.

Good skydiving ability DOES NOT necessarily mean good BASE jumping ability!!!!!

We had a guy here in Oz who jumped an extreme 107 or thereabouts. He purchased a Cruislite for BASE jumping. He was offered instruction in 7 cell canopy flight and he REFUSED!!! His "logic" was that because he was such a great / experienced Extreme pilot (his opinion - he had about 100 jumps on the extreme and 400 all up) flying the slower canopy would be easy. ANyway, he jumped several objects and had off headings on them (I know of a building and bridge but apparently there were more incidents). He flew his cruislite like his extreme (i.e same toggle inputs etc). This #penis# head had several obhect strikes. Fortunately he got scared after the nth incident and gave up.

People should understand that although there are similarities between skydiving and BASE jumping, there are probably more differences than similarities and a different skill set is required. i.e If you are a racing car driver, do you just jump on a bike and race. Maybe yes, but more than likely you will have to learn new skills.

Think, watch, learn, develop skills, use your brain.

    Stay Safe
    Have Fun
    Good Luck

    ;-) :P

I had similar experiences trying to fly my fox 245 like a small zp elliptical. After busting my arse two times I got my $hit together and and learned lots of deep brake/accuracy stuff and turning flares etc. Now I land soft and not like a sack of potatos thrown from the exit point :)

Those who are not experienced, should never go out to this place.

And they should not even know where it is, that way, we can keep those big balled skydivers from killing themselves, and ruining a great jump site for experienced jumpers.

THIS IS NOT A BEGINNER SITE AND NEVER WILL BE.
Anyone who says otherwise is "WRONG"!!!!!!!!!!

Any instructor that takes a low time jumper there, should be tared.

    Stop being stupid!

Pay the airfare, fly to the Perine, and learn is a safe environment.
