Sorry I put this in General forum, but I wanted Randy H. to see it. What is the length of the Statute of Limitations regarding Illegal Air Delivery and all it's legal brethren in the parks?

Hey! I had fun jumping with Phil Smith. Any of you guys even know who he is? He da man! Everything I did with Phil (and Randy for that matter) was quite legal, however.

SORRY. I meant RICK. I never even jumped with Randy, but I could never tell them apart. Sheesh. I'm senile.

While talking recently with a high profile BASE lawyer, this question came up. I was informed that the Statute of Limitations is 5 years for aerial delivery.

So now you can drive to Yosemite and show the NPS video of your pre-1998 jumps from Half Dome and they can't do a thing about it :P

    Interesting.
    I've got a question, though.

How can you prove that a video shot pre-1998 was really shot pre-1998?
What about a video of a jump, let's say, shot yesterday? How can exist evidence that it was shot yesterday and not pre-1998?
How can, in a court (or similar "environment"), be "proven" the date of shooting of a certain video?

    Just thinking...

In at least one of 428's examples, there have been major terrain changes which would probably be visible in the background of the video. If the apron is down, you're busted. If it's still up, then you've got video of an "expired" jump. If push came to shove, in court, you could probably come up with this sort of time indicator for many jump videos.

OR, the fact that it is on Mini DV can be a good indicator that a video is less than say 7 years old. Maybe. I guess it could be a copy from Beta. Just bored rantings...
