a try of italian translation of the incident
Alexi Kosarev, 27 y.o.a. from Moscau died on 5. april 2003 when jumping from Mt. Brento. After days of winds the russian team decided to go up anyway, aldo they had 2 prblems already (probably of heading openings and wind)At 18.30, when the wind stoped and it seemed that the the wind calmed (in the whole area around there was still wind from North) Here i can put down my observations from jumping that exit (Look ahead on the leftlside-11 oclock there is a lake and look on the survice of the wather to see the wind down...). He jumped without slider, had a 180 ofheading and he opened after 6.sec. with in this sec. he didnt get enought out from rock. So recomended is atleast 8/9 sec. With affective trek 12/13/14 sec. u get out from the base of pareta which is safe. that is raw translation
why dive if u can BASEdive
Edit:In respect of what Frog write below
>
>He jumped without
>slider, had a 180 ofheading and he opened after 6.sec. with in
>this sec. he didnt get enought out from rock.
I'm guessin' it wasn't the rock that killed him...;)
DISCLAIMER:
These info's are taken by a local newspaper and then reported in Baseitalia web site. If you want to verify this, check on this web site http://www.ladige.it (only in italian!) and check in the archive. You'll find the same words and the same writing errors ("slieder" instead of "slider") on the newspaper article and on the BaseItalia web site...
Personally, I don't think these info's are true!
I've talked with someone who was there and seems is not true that the setting was a no-slider configuration.
And I don't think that anyone can take a similar delay (6 seconds) intentionally without a slider...
While waiting for first hand info's, please don't post anything taken from a newspaper without mentioning this!

Thanks Faber!
My post was only written because in this forum section, reserved to the new jumpers, we cannot give wrong (or second hand) notices.
Bepi, please be careful before posting something like this...
Thanks!
Here a traslation of an article by “ L’Adige” newspaper of 08/04/03 about the accident to the russian guy.
It was given yesterday the authorization to tranfer home the body of the young Russian jumper Alexi Kosarev, death on Saturday night: The parents, arrived on Sunday, had to do all the sad but necveessary legal papers. The locals authority after the first constatations gave a report to the majors judges, but to determinate the cause of the fatality is needed an examination of the rig that is taken in the authority offices.
“ I will do also a thecnical examination – sayd yesterday Bepi Hofer, president of the Trento’s skydivers and technical consulent of the authority and of the local Sport office for a long time – we have to determinate if the rig jumped or not with the slider, important part of the rig ( the slider ) that help to recover the 180 off heading opening. I think also that the wind was a part of the fatality. In that conditions it shouldn’t jump.”
Considering that is impossible to avoid people jumping, the self regulating paper on the “ Becco dell’Aquila “ ( the exit point ) where is also written the names of the people death in a fatality in that cliff is enough? “ We must do something more - sayd Hofer – I will refer to the Berasi in the next days. An idea can be a constant presence of an expert up there, anyway somebody up there ( on the exit point ) that check rigs and skills of the jumpers. In that way jumpers without the needed experience will be uninvited to jump. By now it’s just an idea… it could work partially. Anyway everybody is free to do what he wants”.
