Hijacked email address

This could be somewhat BASE related; My baseXXX@yahoo.com email address has been hijacked by a spammer, which basically means that I am getting loads of failed delivery notices due to the fact the hijacker has placed my yahoo address in the header as the sender. Anybody else problemating with this? any suggestions, Filtering is helping somewhat.

Hey Space,
I had the same problen about a month or two ago. I emailed "support" and they informed me that they couldn't do much about it. That suked!! So what I did was to make a new folder and have all the mail with "user unknown" in the title be directed to it. It helped to unclog my regular mailbox folder. After a couple of weeks they stopped... don't know why though, guess they found your email address more suitable for their needs. :P :P

Unfortunately, since it is so easy to forge the return email addresses (not to mention IP addresses) on spam, this is really hard for Yahoo (or anyone else) to do much about.

If you wanted to get more aggressive, it might be possible to tease out the original sender by reviewing closely the actual headers on the spam. However, it's so easy to forge (ghost) IP addresses that any spammer half-competent will have hidden their tracks this way. Still, it might be worth a shot. From there, you could complain to whatever host network the spam is emanating from and perhaps cut it off there. . . unless it's in China or Russia in which case they might not care.

Technically, the best you can do is filtering and hope for it to pass.

Thanks for the info, I did some searching and found "spam tracking 101" . It seems a lot of hassle so I have set up a new account with yahoo. I´ve decided to intersperse my base number 283 with the word "base", as in "b#a#s#e" at yahoo in case any one wants to write me. I still will monitor my old base283@yahoo.com address while in the process of transferring info.
