I have no experience with rollovers, and would like to do one of a local bridge. I've seen videos, and have an idea of how to do it, but still I would feel like a fool for jumping into my own canopy without asking for advice first!
Any links to articles, threads on BLINC, or other tips would be highly appreciated. CJ :+ |

The key is to maintain line tension throughout the roll. You do this by launching as hard forward as you can. You also want to launch slightly head low, so that you roll over, then tuck as you come around. Otherwise, you'll give yourself a step-through (technically, that maneuver is known as a McJJ, for it's creator).
Your best bet is to find someone who has done them, and get them to help with the first one. Where do you live? --Tom Aiello tbaiello@mac.com |

Thanks for that Tom!
I'm currently living in Queenstown, New Zealand, and there aren't that many jumpers around my side of the country. I absolutely agree with you that the best is to find someone with experience to help, but I do have a forgiving bridge to practise from. I'm a Norgie in exile, so I need something new and fun to compensate for all the low cliffs here ;-) I assume gear configuration is the same as with a slider down/off jump with regards to brake setting?! From what I've seen on video I don't know if tailgate would be a matter of necessity for these jumps?! CJ |

Yes. >I don't know if tailgate would be a matter of necessity for these jumps? I only use a tailgate in wind, when I'm trying to gather the canopy so it doesn't blow around. In general, I don't use a tailgate for these jumps. I feel that it is easier to arrange the unconstrained canopy under the exit point. --Tom Aiello tbaiello@mac.com |

I've been using the tailgate, but closing it with the primary stow band. It does a good job of holding the tail up and out of the way. I think that's about all it's good for though since it would be fine to use nothing at all.

Its called a McConkey dammit! After me cuz I'm so famous as fuk! Quit calling it a rollover you asswipes and respect my athority!
Seriously though, stow yer brakes like a normal slider down. If you need to organize the canopy while hanging it make sure that you don't yank on the brake lines too much. Sometimes that will unstow a brake without you knowing it. No wind is ideal. If you are jumping a span and there is wind make sure it is not a tail wind or you can possibly jump into the canopy. Ya know how first time jumpers usually try to jump foward onto their belly and end up going right over the bars into a front flip? That's exactly what you want to do. Just stare at the canopy the whole time you are diving over the bars and everyting will work out easily. Sometimes the tail folds over the rest of the canopy as you are going by it and it looks scary but this is normal. Punch out hard to keep the lines tight as Tom said too. Its way easier a jump than it sounds. Totally basic and simple. Don't worry about it. |

Remove everything from the topskin. No PC, no bridle, no multi.
I once say the multi link get snagged in a crack on a McConkey 'E'. It took about five minutes of swearing, cursing, and yanking to get it loose. The jumper said it felt like about ten years to him. --Tom Aiello tbaiello@mac.com |

stow and go, dangle and dive...stare at the canopy, push hard... don't pack or put on a tail gate or worry about prep, you can do all that during the dangle. Like McFamous said it is totally basic.
mcconkeys aRE base jumps. It isn't paragliding, but you can mconkey a paraglider as well. |

I have been assisted of a 50meter a couple of times, its cool, but not really worth the packing... But without the packing, a quick and easy fix! Need something to get me trough the winter...no bigwalls until next year... Atle |

I think the fastest thing going is a TARD. Ultra-rapid deployment to say the least. Pure insanity, but if you could really dial in the technique, it could be lots of fun. Who is the TARD king right now?
