December 19th, 2003 The latest issue of Skydive Magazine mentions 10 SKYDIVERS got busted at a National Monument in Arizona. That's all. Skydivers suck anyway.

really, why skydivers do suck? Skydivers invented BASE. OK, I know many skydivers that suck but I know many BASE jumpers that suck big time too. So, please, explain your statement - if nothing else, that way I'll know why some skydiving world champions and world record holders who are also excellent BASE jumpers suck. And dozens of other long-time skydivers that jump BASE on regular basis too. I would really like to know, please help me out with this. Take care.

December 21st, 2003 Do you think that the reference could possibly be to skydivers who know nothing about the stealth quotient of BASE? They just show up at a big cliff and gear up... Going on the assumption that they are bullet proof skydivers without a worry in the world.

It is most likely that there were 'real' BASE jumpers on the load, and that the wording in the write up is just a result of reporting perspective. Of course, there may have been 'skydivers' on the load, only those on the load know who they are, plus whoever they tell.
I believe that the comment about "skydivers suck" is just an example of the black humor that seems to run along with our sport. With few exceptions, the rank and file of BASE jumpers will find their roots in skydiving. I myself was a skydiver for 12 years before making my first BASE jump. Now, after 10 years of BASE jumping, I am going back to the drop-zone more often myself. After starting to BASE jump, I got bored with going to the drop-zone, and was aware of the general attitude of skydivers towards BASE jumpers: "You guys are a bunch of crazy fools". And in hanging out in BASE jumper circles, there was a growing attitude from BASE jumpers that skydivers were "just a bunch of yahoos anyway". The main reason I went back to the drop-zone was to learn wingsuit jumping. The reason I wanted to learn wingsuit jumping, was so that I could practice that discipline in my BASE jumping. I enjoy both sports, BASE and skydiving, for me they go hand-in-hand.
The same sort of judgement has been seen in other communities, for example motorcycle clubs and such. To be "real" you have to ride a Harley, in Europe it's a Ducati, or whatever. On a global level, you can see this same phenomenon in theology. "Join my religion or I'll kill you" seems to be a popular theme for death and destruction on our planet today.
