I am hearing that there may be many poeple that are moving to DZ.com instead of notifying me of posting issues. I currently hear of around 1 every 2 months.
I am looking at issues that are keeping people from posting at BLiNC, and potentially leaving BliNC.
I am considering moving to a new forum application that is more stable, but I need to research before I make such a major move as that.

If you _are_ having issues and can't post them to this poll, please email me at mknutson at baselogic dot com

Mick, I get a couple requests each month.
It is usually a simple fix.

Folks need to remember to logout properly.

    Clean their cache.
    Refresh or reload.

Also, most important I think, login FIRST.

People, as soon as you get to:
    http://www.blincmagazine.com/forum/dcboard.php
You should login immediately, before browsing.
If you are logged in before trying to post,
then some of those "login after I try post" issues will go away.
And you will not get "bounced" around.

    Mick's email is:
    mknutson@baselogic.com

    Mine is:
    email@AveryBadenhop.com

    Hope this helps.

    Hey Mick
This is just the serrius part of BASE forums(in my eyes),i only have 1 problem after you updated last:

when i want to copy and paste some tekst from a tread(lets say i want to answer a Q)then i cant mark it right.it mark ALL above the point i want to mark. that way i need to copy al of it and then delete the parts i dont want to use.

but that aint a reason to leave the biggest BASE data base at all.
i dont think the forum is your problem i think the users are. by that i mean that not many newbies post here, thay are affraid of the big crowd of really hardcore jumpers here, that way a simpel Q,quick leads to small flames/which most times just are meant in a funny way.but thats what keeps many newbies away from posting here.and as most user here that writes here has most of the info they need, then its only news and tecnical Q´s you get here.

But im sure this place are the place that gets most visitors that looks whats going on.i know myself that each time i open a computer i look in here,i might not post but im having a look if theres any news.

    Have Fun

Without additional help moderating the forums, I just can't control _all_ the flames that occur.
    Anyone want to help?

Avery does a great job, but I still think we could always use more help than the 2 of us. As most of my time is actually not spent moderating anymore, as it is maintaining the server and the applications.

I have been falling behind in the review section as of late, and can't keep up.

    Hi Mick-

The issues I've had with posting to BLINC or just navigating around is how long it takes to load a screen...there is a several second lag that really slows me down. One day I was rushing to get some things posted before I left for the day. I got done with dropzone.com in a very short time, then came to BLINC. I was frustrated that it took so long to do the same post as I had done on the other forum. I haven't had any other problems posting to BLINC recently.

I have been interested in the moderator job. Can you let me know what is required?

    Thanks
    Karen

Is this just in the forum, or the whole site?
If it is just the forum, I am going to have a beta forum up before I migrate the whole site. I would hope that I could get some of your time to test the new forum. Especially focusing on the issues you have. Is that possible?

Mick, I've got the same issue as K.......BLINC is slow to load on any of my PC's. Sometimes I just give up on it.

    -Too many graphics?
    -Code too large?
    -Server speed?

I dunno, but speed is probably the main issue amongst users.

    Hi Mick,

Can we go back to the black background?

All this white is killing my night vision . . .

    Hi Mick-

I just spent some time clicking around in BLINC, and the slow loading screens aren't just in the forum, but the entire site. It's a 5-7 second delay after the screen goes white before anything appears, then the header line shows up, and it's another second or two before the rest appears. It seems almost silly to be complaining about an 8 second wait, but it is noticeable.

I would be willing to donate some time to testing anything new that you create!

    Thanks
    K

PS: I love Nick DG's comment about the white screen ruining his night vision.

I just clicked around a bit. My average load time on BLiNC pages appears to be about 2-3 seconds, which is the same it is on DZ.com pages. This is relatively consistent between the two computers I've just tried (one a PC running Win98, the other a Mac running X.3.2). I'm on a cable modem.

K, what setup are you using?

    What is your whole setup?
I am interested to know where such a delay is comming from on the whole of BLiNC....

This seems odd that the entire site is that slow.

    BLiNC Magazine is running on:
    Apache 2
    Linux 9
    Dual 2.5Ghtz CPU's
    1GIG Ram
    MySql 3.23.50
PIPE: more than a T3 if needed. No restrictions on my side.

    Ditto to the above.

I'm running Win XP Pro with a DSL.
I log in after the home page loads (slowly).

My setup has worked fine in the past, but in the last few weeks/months things have been moving like pondwater.

Is there anything on the pages that might be sensative to anti-virus/firewall/antispam/popup blocker software?

This has got to be the one thread where we discuss "seconds of delay" and it has nothing to do with a jump. :)

    thanks,

Ditto on BLiNC - both on my home PC with slow connection and also my works PC with a kick ass connection.

DZ dot com does load alot quicker then BLiNC in both instances...... not so much on my home connection though.

Edit: Saying that - it does seem faster now (after some trawling and posting!!)
