Official BASE numbers being sent out.

Hello BASE jumpers. Well, after quite a delay, I'm happy to say that my wife Joy, after over 80 hours of work and cross referencing has been through all of the BASE correspondence that we had. We had all correspondence many of you had sent to Jean Boenish over the last year as well as several we received directly. The last group of numbers and cards went out in the mail this past Monday, Jan. 10, 2000.
For anyone that has qualified by jumping all 4 required objects, please send us the information about which objects and the DATE and TIME of the last jump that qualified you for BASE. For very recent last jumps, we will wait 3 to 4 weeks to mail the number out, to try to preserve the right order. For folks who qualified more than 4 weeks before we get the letter, we will send it out right away with the last available number.
We are asking for a $10. Donation for the number and if you want a green plastic card (size of a credit card) with your name and number on it, you must send $5. Any checks need to be made out to BASE.
Hey folks, the night numbers are still pretty low, well below 200 so if anyone has done all 4 objects at night, they qualify for both a regular BASE number and a Night BASE number. IF IT IS A PROBLEM SENDING MONEY, DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT, WE'LL AT LEAST GET YOU A NUMBER ON ONE OF OUR FREE PAPER CARDS JOY MADE UP. IF GETTING AN AMERICAN STAMP IS A PROBLEM, JUST THROW A DOLLAR IN THE ENVELOPE AND WE'LL BUY THE NECESSARY POSTAGE. THIS IS NOT ABOUT MAKING MONEY. IT IS ONLY ABOUT THE FACT THAT I LOVED CARL BOENISH AND WANT TO MAKE SURE PEOPLE WHO WISH TO CARRY ON THE SPORT GET RECOGNIZED FOR IT.

Yo. Sorry I can't tell you exactly, but there are well over 500 BASE numbers for regular BASE. The night numbers are well below 200 so get out there and find that elusive night cliff. My brother and I were the first to do Half Dome at night years ago in 1982. It was probably the scariest BASE jump of my life and given the NPS attitude, I wouldn't recommend it. Find a short cliff over water or a smooth landing area. I would suggest Norway, but if it is in the middle of the summer, it never really gets dark enough to be a true night jump. Good Luck, Rick.

I remember calling Jean at 2:00 AM that night I did my fourth object as if it was yesterday. I didn't want to call and probably wake her up at that hour, but those in my group said, "You don't want someone to swoop YOUR number, do ya kid?"

Then, just a few days later, I remember telling "Nick_BR" what number Jean gave me (yes, I woke her up, but she didn't mind a bit!), and Nick (there was no "BR" back then, nor was there e-mail and call-names) said, "Wow, they're up that high already?! Well, someday you might be able to claim that you're still in the original 300."

He was in the original 100, which I thought (and still do) was way cool. We wondered how long it would take to roll every next hundred.

I remember how hard I worked to get that last object (time, money and traveling obstacles kept it at bay for two years), and how good it felt to finally get it, and (most important) how much fun it was. CONGRATULATIONS!!

Thanx Rick, Randy and Joy for taking on a great tradition, and yes Kjerag Exit #5 are the best visual. I have jumped 4 or 5 times and I am going to jump it many times more :-)

There was a period of time when numbers were being awarded with the dam being counted as a building.As the record will show, I was wondering if that will still be the case with the new system or what please let us know Rick.Hopefully not as we all know a dam is not a building unless your just after a number.

Hi Rick and Joy...hope your Christmas and New Year went well...I was in Chamonix and Belgium to complete 18 jumps in four days...not bad for the middle of winter!!!I did my qualifying night span on the 26th December and was wondering what else you need from me to allow the issue of a night BASE number...the jump was from a Bridge at Steinebucke in Belgium at around 18.10 local time...my e mail address is below...drop me a line and let me know what else you need...cheers

what designates a building,i recently jumped a 270'man made pumping station,phone ringing off the hook, office, maintenance area, windows ,doors, & a spectacular ledge.Not your typical apartment bld.
