Has anyone opened exits on the Matterhorn? I've been looking at pictures of late, and it appears there are potential exits both on the NNW ridge and perhaps the ESE face. Approach to both looks somewhat technical, but still. . . what an object!

Beta appreciated; already dreaming the dreams of summer 2003. . .

    Peace,

I heard it's only a forty minute walk to the obvious exit point...

Which "obvious exit point?" Do you mean the big, gratuituously-overhanging diving board. . . or the underhung, exposed, improbable, laughably dangerous one?

. . .'cause if it's the former, why bother? I'm working hard to put into practice the Pacific NW BASE Association slogan: "We put the 'DANGER' back in 'BASE'"

Oh, and does the 40 minutes include the buttslide down the ski slope and humiliated crawl back up? :P

Peace and happy holidays, my friend!

Right on! Ueli sure has done some solid stuff. Mushroom rock on the Eiger remains to this day near the top of my "I gotta jump that feature soon" list.

my short list includes the Mushroom and Castleton as well as some not to be named here. Just thinking about them has me salivating. Have heard that the Matterhorn is a pile of choss but if we're not there for the climbing it may as well be a pile of graham crackers held together with kitty litter, huh?

Heard its a very short delay, followed by a long canopy ride. Needs a heli to make it worthwhile, otherwise its a long, hard walk/climb for a hop and pop. Better to head for the Eiger for a much longer freefall for the same effort.

    Hello Together,

for some BASE History, I am not sure if Ueli Gegenschatz and Hannes Arch were the first BASE Jumpers on Matterhorn.

I think I can remember that Erich Felbermayer and Walter Laindecker from Austria jumped Matterhorn back in 1966 or 1967.

There was a short note in an old "Alpinismus" (a german climbing magazine).

Erich Felbermayer was well known as being one of the first who jumped from cliffs.

Anyone who has more facts about that?

    Regards,

    Skybird
