Strange though it may seem, Mick...I care.

It's difficult for BASE jumpers to accept rules of any kind. You know that.

Why not have a free for all board with (almost) anything goes (so long as no site is endangered)?

    Skin.

Not quite BLINCs #1 fan in recent months but still well up there.

Some days I just don't feel like behaving.:P

    Appreciated.

I know that rules suck, but no matter what.....you have to live by them!
How many you live by is choice, but there will be some.

    Now, for the free-for-all board.....
That is the way BLiNC used to be, but EVERYONE though that BLiNC was too MEAN then. Everyone, especially newbies where afraid to post at all.

So, I am not sure how to resolve this issue.
I could create another forum and allow it to be a free-for-all. But the BLiNC Moderators, as well as the community would have to agree to it. Especially the moderators as they are the one who would need to field all the crap that would arise.
Not too sure about that one though.....

We care, we're just reluctant to post on this board, especially when you're not one of the "in crowd"; If the rules were enforced for all posters equally the problem would resolve itself.
I personally visit this site most days, and have since the late 90's. It is still my #1 info resource.

Bitching and traffic or no bitching and no traffic. That is the question.

    Good luck.;-)

You still have a problem logging in?
If so, have you tried to poke around the new forum?
    http://www.blincmagazine.com/forum_new/

Try that right now and see if you can login, logout etc...several times.
That is the new forum application that I hop to release in the next 1-2 weeks.

A long time ago, I wanted to create something that was very beneficial to the BASE community. I was not looking to be put up on a pedistal, or be an icon. I was mearly looking to have a site that was in its own right, SUCCESSFUL.

This has cost me tens of thousands of dollars over the years, as well as a huge chunk of my time/life.

Many people are very quick to hammer me, and go elseware, but I would like to continue to ask for the support of the community to help create something that is OURS!

I want allow people to have more direct imput. This is why I have been looking to recruit a team of moderators. I also want to recruit a newsletter writer, and a NEWS editor.

Would anyone care to talk about this with me?
Does the majority of BASE-Jumpers even care about the future of BLiNC?

Hi Mick, My loyalty is always for Blinc. you, Nick D. have always done the best info dissemination. the one moderater who dissed a valid post was a nasty thing. but other than that your site is very outstandin and many thanks for your work as I am an instructor and it is so cool to have a student that has read the info you have archived before. My loyalty is for you and the work you have done. Hatzoff. I really think you stand tall, very tall in this aspect and I can´t thank you enough for your contribution to the sport of BASE. I think you should guide beginners to a moderated forum and have an unmoderated (as much as possible) forum so the newbies can see the @holes on the unmoderated forum.
Next bier is on me. take care,
    many thanks on your works.

    Hi Mick-

Yes, BLINC has been an amazing boon to BASE. It's informative, gives people a place to ask questions, share their experiences, to learn and to teach. I think it's invaluable, even priceless, to BASE.

If people are not happy with the BASE Board because of the moderation, then perhaps an unmoderated Free 4 All forum would be the answer. Of course, the not naming sites rule would need to be applied, but other than that, let people get as verbal as they want to. (Obviously for registered users only). I know I would not visit such a forum unless suffering from extreme boredom or a need to get grateful for my life, but I do think there are other people that have no other outlet for their crap than an online forum. I think the BASE board has improved immensely since all the hate and flaming has been minimized, although I have noticed the postings have gotten much fewer and farther between.

I would like to contribute in some fashion, but please keep in mind that I'm working 6 days a week right now, so would only have 2-3 hours a week to help out. What can I do?

Thanks for your hard work, Mick. It is appreciated!

Mick I'm with Skin... I think there needs to be a free for all with one rule: no site naming. Let's get back to the bitchboard. Ever notice how things totally went downhill when Mr. Tokemon (and I'm not _BLAMING_ Mr. THomas.. just using it as a point of temporal reference) started the crap? I say screw it.. if someone wants to talk more than they listen so be it. But I think the real killer wasn't tokemon. the real killer was the site moderation that ensued after that incident.

My vote on the rules: 1) no site naming. 2) anything else goes.

I think you'd find that the traffic would pick up. low jump newbies on that other forum complaining about the no-site-naming policies is a perfect example of what happens when you take BASE jumping to the skydivers. Let the skydivers come to BASE jumpers. That's the way it always has been and the way it should always be.

How much $ do I owe you for all the posts I've put on here in the past? Bill me.

Hoping things pick back up around here....

    Gardner
