Right now we are on the subject how about landing a wingsuit. Theres been plenty of big hard talk about landing a wingsuit on a suitable incline covered with snow but heres a more practical concept.
Land the wingsuit on the slope of a very large wave. Heres how it would work. Hawaii would be ideal, especially for beginners. Wait for a large winter swell where the faces can be 40ft+. Line yourself up parrallel to the swell coming into the beach, pick your set wave and land down and along the face of the breaking wave. The slope of the wave and the broken surface of the water would help cushion the blow and increase your chances. Life jacket optional but you would want a mate standing by on a jetski to help you out. Any volunteers? Concept pat pending Johnny Mac. |

Personally, I've got more fear of 40 foot waves than I do of trying to land at 80+ mph on hard ground. Have you ever SEEN a 40 foot wave? I haven't, but the odd 8 footer I've seen and experienced firsthand was enough to make me 100% sure that something five friggin' times as manly is plenty too mean for this sorry, old, tail-between-his-legs Dog.

Ask Yuri to tell you the story about Denis (Russian Extreme Project) and his wingsuit landing.
It's much closer to reality than many people think... |

1. Your "more practical concept" depends on timing perfectly the random appearance of a a very large moving wave? 2. Hawaii is especially ideal for beginners? Beginner what; wingsuit landers? Just curious... |

If this guy fly wingsuits... I'd put money on him being the first to land one. With his suit on, find the perfectly sloped highway that's straight (one comes to mind in Montana) have it brushed clean with a streetsweeper and fly on in.
YouTube[/URL]I think it'd have better chances than a wave because the highway is usually stationary. And since it's already built it'd be alot cheaper than designing a ramp. The streetsweepers would be expensive, but I would think you could have it done for around 10000 bucks. Or buy lots of beer and brooms and bring the friends out. Then when it's time to do the jump, have your buds block off the highway (if it's not a really busy highway) and get out of there before the cops show up. |

I was just going to ask one of the moderators to ban Tom from this site, but then laughed when he had to say something seemingly intelligent like that wingsuit landings are about to happen, from a post in 2002.
Sometimes, its better to keep your mouth shut so you don't confirm that you're a clown. |
