Is there a big difference in opening time? I know altitude is a factor. What else should one consider? What are the pro's and con's?
    Thanks

The big question is, "Who's gonna hold your PC?" Or, are you gonna trust a breakcord, electrical tape, plastic bag, etc to deploy your canopy

Or, you could static line your bridle at the PC attatchment point. Or you could do like Theresa did and put your PC in your BOC pouch and tie the static line at the PC attatchment point - the only downfall to that you can only do it once.
Can you enlighten me Grunt? I don't really see how altitude is a factor...

Reasons why I like static line instead of pca.

-Breakcord (I mean real breakcord, not electrical tape) will hold it's weight and break. every time. It won't stretch, lose it's footing, or have a brain fart.

-A static line will extract the canopy with a constant, linear force. That helps opening consistency. Sometimes, your assist might be at an angle, or they might pull back or something.

I don't recommend using electrical tape or grocery bags for S/L, because these things are made of plastic and their strength will vary at different temperatures.

I use either 80 lb cotton tape, or 50 lb cotton 6-cord. Cotton is best because it holds a knot better. Be careful how you store the stuff, cotton can deteriorate from exposure to moisture, UV rays, etc.

By the way, you probably don't have to be as anal as I am to figure this stuff out. Have fun.

    Yo,
    Considering the variables involved,
I´m not so sure what you mean by opening time,
a canopy can be fully open and still fly you straight into the ground recovering from a downwind deployment, SL/PCA dnwd (properly done) can cause the tail of the canopy to be blown around the nose. Crosswind SL/PCA will cause the canopy to fold around the attatchment point, placing 99% of the canopy on the dwndside. DB will normally keep it´s shape though the axis´ of inflation will be off kilter if your shoulders parallel with the ground as opposed to the wind vector.
80lbs breakcord can break at less than rated loads because of the edges it is tied around can actually cut it...
PCA can vary because of the Human factor of the assisters grip or lack of it...
Don´t forget to add in the pack job variations and also off headings,Mechanical Turbulence,etc.......
Feel free to ask me a more precise question.
In a static no-wind (Very Rare) condition, one could possibly make a reasonable forecast..with his own packjob....but add wind, someone else´s pack and everything changes and can do so drastically.....
    Hope this helps..
