    Static line pilot chute

Question for the smart guys. I want to static line my pilot chute instead having someone hold it, since I'll be going last. How many wraps of fishing line and what strength of line do I use on the french link? Or do you suggest a different material for the static line? The container is a Vision and I weigh 180 geared up. Thanks :P

    RE: Static line pilot chute

    Hey bro!

Make sure your PC is attached to your bridle/shrivel flap, otherwise I doubt seriously that your PC is big enough to slow 180lbs down before impact....seriously though, I prefer break cord for my S/L jumps. I've seen fishing line break prematurely on more than one occasion resulting in a lower than desired opening...this could be a real BIG issue as most S/L jumps are LOW already. Break cord seems to be very consistent if you use a correct knot, and cheaper than fishing line too. HOWEVER, I know 2 VERY experienced jumpers (over 700 jumps each) who both ONLY use fishing line. So its one of those things you should gather as much info as possible, then make a decision based on your personal parameters. Good luck but IMO fishing Line = BLACK DEATH!
    stay low bro,

    >How many wraps of fishing line and what strength of line do I use

I've never used fishing line, so I wouldn't know about that.

    >on the french link?

Why are you putting it on a link? And where in the canopy-shrivel flap-bridle-PC chain is that link located? I'd recommend putting it on the PC attachment loop of the bridle.

    >Or do you suggest a different material for the static line?

Absolutely. How about break cord, available from any of the BASE gear manufacturers? Since there is a purpose built, tested cord, manufactured for this purpose, why use anything else?

A while back, I wrote up a "how to static line" guide for some of my friends. Drop me an email if you want the whole thing.

    different material

the real question comes at the grocery store when the bagger asks:
    "Paper or plastic?"
I've heard plastic bags, cut into strips works OK. of course, that comes from down under.
    Peace out,
