Hi I’m new to these forums, I cant really say I am new to BASE as I’ve not done a BASE jump yet but intend to when I get my skydive jumps numbers up! Currently on 165 (118 in the last 3 months)

I am in New Zealand, the south island. I have been interested in BASE since day one of my Skydiving career and have read articles etc like most.

I intend to start BASE sometime next year after about 400ish skydives, this has been recommended by a BASE jumper here, and I also intend do a first jump course haven’t decided on the States or Norway yet. Plenty of time for that

I have met one BASE jumper here in Christchurch who has said that he would take me along with him, once I am ready etc, but he has now gone to the States to work. I only met him once at the dz too.

My question is are there any NZ BASE jumpers here on these forums if yes I was wondering if you could tell me how many there are and if there is an NZ BASE community. Please fell free to pm/email me as I would like to meet some and discuss BASE here in NZ and how best to go about getting involved even though I don’t intend jump until next year

    Cheers
    Ian

    Hi Ian,

I'm not a Kiwi, but I’ve BASE jumped in NZed.

We conducted BASE seminars in 1994 at almost all the NZed drop zones and there was a small but growing BASE community there at the time.

I even spent a few weeks in the Christchurch Hospital after an accident off the bridge in Hamner Springs (I always call it Hammer Springs now). And yes, it was very embarrassing.

For more current info try Anne Helliwell at Basic Research (basicresearch.com) she’s a Kiwi living here in the States, but she keeps up on the scene over there. She also runs a very good First BASE course here, if you decide to visit . . .

    Cheers,
    Nick D
