So this is my first jump on my Troll MDV DW 285/305 loaded at about .7 not too high above sealevel and not too hot of a day. Note the end cells remain closed almost to landing and it was the same on most of my jumps that weekend and very much so on the tards i did. any one else experienced this? do you think i have cause for alarm? any ideas how to remidy it?
    Cheers hass

    so which was it ?
    A 285 or 305 and which one gave you the 0.7 W/L ?

I have a 285 and a 305 Troll.......and that level of end cell closure on opening looks similar to what I experience....
.its something thats never been an issue to me...in fact I consider it completely normal.....other than occasionally one side pressurising faster than the other and giving a very mild left or right off heading.
Mine doesnt 'flutter' as much during pressurisation.....but I load my 305 more than 0.7

How do you dress the nose of your canopy when you pack?

I think what Hass is saying is that it's a Troll 285 but since Atair measures the bottom skin, its measure to be a 305 by PIA standards (top skin) which the other manufacturers use.

Thanks Abbie thats correct. I thought the different measuring technique used by Attair was commonly known particularly by people who own one but i guess not I was thinking its possibly my brake settings. However i expect a little more from a vented canopy my old troll manufactured in 04 so pre DW vents used to pressurise briliantly however it was next size down (US PIA 285) unfortunitly down here in NZ we dont have a lot of friendly objects to experiment with changing our canopies too much.

side cells folded once to the center and under the center cell which is wide open to the side folds of my packjob. Its the same way i packed with my old canopy and several of my friends pack without issue the way they stay closed in flight (after the fact its not presurising straight away) that i find bemusing.
    Might give Staine an email
Ps im not bagging the canopy its shit hot in all other aspects

So first, a refresher from poynters... End cell closure is caused when the air pressure on the outside (leading edge) of the canopy is greater than the internal pressure and the inlet is closed off.

It happens quick on the vid and I'm no expert but try keeping your canopy in the braked position when pop em. looks like you pop em and let the tail jump right into full flight instead of a smooth transition. there wing wasnt fully pressurized yet. once you started pulling the brakes for your landing your cells popped open which is the typical fix.

    Johnny, any thoughts?

I have the same sized aTroll MDV (305 by PIA standards) no DW and it never does that. I am sure my wingloading makes up some of that difference (.87) but even on PCA it never seems to end up with closed end cells........

    >>I also have a 285/305 Troll MDV DW and I've never had that problem. The thing opens up like there's no tomorrow.

Turkish, that's a pretty normal opening for a go and throw on a lightly loaded 7 cell. It's flying before the end cells inflate. Another thing is that one jump is not enough to know if it's an issue or not.

    Goood luck

I have done seven or 8 jumps on it that weekend and the one after. I thought the same thing initially but even on two second delays off an E and an A it was doing the same thing. That same bridge i have seen and done many jumps all of them go and throws and I have never witnessed that even on unvented canopies. I am loading the canopy exactly at the manufacturers recomendation and I have a hard time excepting that that is normal.

That looked like a perfect jump. From exit to landing.
What are you trying to remedy? I would kiss ass (almost) to have that type of landing on every jump.

Not really, You should just question what you are trying to remedy.
Just flare and the end cells open like in the video.
