    Hello all,

We had a non incident here, a broken ankle landing in the gulley that was placed on the front page of the newspaper. I guess it could have been a really slow news days , but in reality the paper just has an axe to grind with jumping in general. The chopper was called in for this life threatening injury, probably by a bystander. We as a community need to do what we can to not feed the the paper any more non-stories. We know we can't eliminate injuries so we need to focus on what to do when they happen to minimize the impact.

What to do if there is an injury:

Whether the injury is life threatening or not, call the sheriff and inform them. If you don't need assistance, tell them that. Unnecessary life flights and use of other resources is the angle the "newspaper" is trying to leverage.

If a bystander calls for help and you really don't need it (not life threatening), refuse it.

Harden up and hike out with your friend's help. Its not that far and if you jump technical sites (real base objects) long enough you are going to be involved in this type of situation as a either the injured or the helper eventually.

Call Don's boat service. He may be around and can help. 208.731.6448

Know some locals phone numbers, and call them for help. Several locals have boats and can help get you out of the canyon.

The last resort should be to ask the police or S&R to get you out of the canyon. This should only be an option if injuries are life threatening. FYI, A tib - fib, bad sprain, or broken ankle is not life threatening, and frankly, they don't even hurt that much. If you can't conceive of dealing with the pain of one footing it for a mile or two with the a couple of buddies help then you are probably better suited for a nice game of cribbage or bowling.

Also, for $50.00 you can get an annual membership in the Air St. Lukes (Life Flight).

    Have a nice day

I would take it seriously; but it's serious and ridiculous at the same time. -sl
