Hey leroy, I heard about a method you use for kind of-- tarding your pilot chute, is the only way i can describe it, when leaving an object.. do you mind explaining it better or have pics. Seems like it would take some practice but sounded pretty interesting when I heard about it.

I'm not sure exactly what you are talking about, but I think I know. The 1st person I saw do this was Jay Moledzski, probably 3 or 4 years ago on a tower. He used the tail wind to inflate the PC which he held by its base. Once inflated he let go and exited pretty much a the same time. It was and interesting technique and I'm sure gets you open higher than a HH jump. Of course then Jay did a switch blade landing (both toggles in one hand). Doesn't everyone do that?

There is a guy that goes by Greeny that does this very same method of "tarding" the PC when FFing ultra, ultra low shit (sub 150 ft., know the site and seen video). Seems to be more of a toss overhead to fully inflate the PC just as you step off as Tree was describing.

Not sure if he posts here but may chime in for more info.

I've done this from a lower bridge's steel. inflated it then stepped off underneath it.

From what I hear, his LAPD'S are well researched and worth trying to get in contact with him..... perhaps try and hit him up on the UK board as I know some of the UK people are in contact with him....

There are two factors in a PC's function...snatch and drag. ["Snatch...giggity!"]

I'd talk to Greeny for some clarification on his setup, but I'd assume that given the relatively low airspeed, the snatch force of a "pre-inflated" or "tarded" PC would require a much lower pin-tension or velcro(-tension?). Prime that shit!

Not sure Grenny's on here much. Anyone who knows him point him over for comment?

Yeah i know who greeny is... he did post a while ago too.

he uses a short-lined, extra vented, short-bridle canopy. Everything is modified for ultra low. in fact, i think he said you'd get a crazy backsurge if you did any more than a go and throw with that set up.

anyway.. read his post its interesting stuff and field tested. I personally am not intersted in sub 150 freefall but the best thing in this sport is everyone gets a little something different out of it.

nothing really special:
2 methods:
#1 mushroom the PC/ s-fold the lines, but leave the ZP or f111 untucked. so it is partially inflated but still kinda limp (like abbie after to much alcohol, his GF told me). This give it some wrist-"flick-ability" <--possible nugget?

I run or jump off and toss it up and slightly out. I have had it inflate as much as head height (5-6 feet, maybe 7 if I am really motivated) off the level I jumped from.

#2 mushroom the PC/ s-fold the lines, but leave the ZP or f111 untucked. BUT this time ensure that it is inflated from either the tail wind OR a snapping motion of the PC. I usually toss this straight up and out also, but somtimes toss it to the side for some flavor...

For critically low jump (critical is relative to me of course), I use method #1 for anything under 225. I have use this as low as 190, but would rather SL anthing under 200 for comfort purposes.

For clarifiction I will say that I am holding on to the once S-folded mesh and s-folded bridal.

I started BASE back in early 04 and was doing this technique soon after learning other methods of going HH. I don't like some methods, though they may work, I didnt feel comfy. That being said I would used just about any HH method over 250-300ft. I didn't know of others using this method, though I didnt ask everyone either.
