So it showed up today.

First impressions:

Gave it a detailed inspection and it is the most robust friggin construction I've ever seen. It's built like a tank. Incredibly impressive.

I've notice some awesome design improvements over earlier versions of the Rigor Mortis. The vent design - front and back - and the over-arm donning zippers are the most apparent right off the bat. It also has Vibram soles instead of slippery assed leather. The wings are bigger too, but perfectly designed.

Everything that's been improved upon makes perfect sense when you look at it. I'll take some better pictures and air it out this weekend. I'll report on flight performance, but I can already tell I'm glad I spent my money domestically on our favorite Italian transplant. If it flies better than the RMI, as Nick says it will, it will hang with any other suit on the market.

This suit is pure sickness.

How much experience to you have with sewing and construction Q&A? Have you compared other wingsuits to Nicks? I would love to have one to evaluate before choosing a suit.

Yes. Prodigy1, S1, Vampire1, biggest difference is the material selection. This thing is thick and solid all around - a tank, like I said. But the RM1 I flew (Constructed similarly) took no effort to fly. My very first WS skydive was a RM1, which is considered an advanced suit. It flew itself - effortless. The new wing and vent innovations put this suit in the "elite" class of wingsuits. No doubt.

Collin and JVH have V3s. When they come up to Twin, we'll throw down and see what kind of performance comparisons we get.

There's a small sizing issue with mine (error on my end), so I'm shooting back to Nick for a tweak to open up that front leg vent. In line with his customer service reputation, he said no problem.

So it'll be a few weeks until I fly it. I'm TDY to Knox next week for a few - be back for Memorial Day. Will advise.

Tim, I'll be in Lodi a few times this summer before we go make fools of ourselves at nationals this year. I'll bring my suit if you'd like to see it and go fly toghether. I promise more warning when i show up this time! The RM1 of Nick's I have was built when he was still outsourcing to EG but you can at least see version 1.0's design. I'm no super wingsuit guy but i found it really easy to fly. For a long time i was overtensioning the suit, a bad habit i was doing when flying old birdman suits (classic and S1), i guess. This one doesn't need a highly tensioned body and I've finally realized that.

I don't know if i've reach the status of knowing 'alot' yet but thanks Harv! Nick's using a cuben fiber for the ribs on the RM line of products. It provides the rigidity without any worry of breaking or cracking like plastic battens. The suit is mostly heavy duty parapack and large beefy YYK zippers. A tank doesn't fly so lets call it a flying fortress! The new soles as harvey said are vibram, pretty cool if you're trying to work your way down a sloping exit point that scared me even without a wingsuit somewhere out in the northwest .

I've flown some of the matter suits, as well, and some of the newer phoenix-fly products (stealth, ghost2, phantom2), not the vampire series though. I don't consider myself close to an expert flyer so I can't give you detailed comparrisons in flight. The suit works very well for me and I'm happy to support Nitro Rigging. Nick puts alot of heart into his suits, I know his goal is to make the best suit he can, not just make a profit.

Speaking of profit, I'm a dealer for him, so anyone coming to twin that wants one come see me.

Was Nick using the cuban fibre on the 1st series of suits or is it brand new to the version duex(two for you non french canadians)?

I do not browse forums anymore and post even less.

Anyway, I'm alive in FL for now, physically well, mentally just as fucked up.

All my products thus far, wingsuits and containers are built solely by me, outsourcing to EG did not work out, I'm way too fucking anal and I had to compromise way too much on the original design so he could build the suits, and fucked them up left and right!

The new suits have no parts in common with the old ones. I have redesigned all the patterns from scratch because this time I had less constraints.

I have not had the time to update the website, in due time.

The new suits are built 100% from 420 pack cloth (built to my standards), with such number I see no need to use anything else! Some small parts and the containers are build from ballistic nylon, again made to my specs. I am using mil-specs everything (including the snaps) as I intend to actually get the MIL certification on all my products.

I still offer composite fiber ribs BUT they do make packing the suit much more difficult so I discourage them for BASE when you have to shove the suit and container in small stash bags.

It seems that the semi-rigid ribs offered an increse in performance in the older suits but not so much with the newer ones; this is due to the better pressurization via redisigned vents.

The three models are the Rigor Mortis II, the Volturius II, and the Flockus II. Plus the Corvus II has been redesigned as a one-piece tracking suit.

All wingsuits feature the same leg wing which is triple vented: Crotch, and front and back airlocked lower vents.

Gone is the huge back deflector, but they all have an integrated deflector designed for back flying as well.

What varies between the suits is the shape of the arm wings: The Volturius II has the longer cord (all way down to the top of the knees); the Flockus II retains the same shape as the Flockus I and the Rigor Mortis II has become the more radical suit with straight trailing edges. In the end, heavy pilots should pick the Volturius II, small and medium pilots the Flockus II, and those who seek a more sensitive and fast suit the Rigor Mortis II.

All of them are back-fly friendly, so you can go ahead and kill yourselves back flying on a BASE jump! Weed the bitches out!

On my very first BASE wingsuit jump at Mt. Brento, I slipped on exit thanks to the plastic soles on a S3 I was flying at the time. Now all the suits feature Vibram soles.

Construction-wise I only use E, F, and 5 cord thread, I double needle everything and also overlock all seams with F and E thread.

ALL the zippers are the heaviest duty YKK that had to come directly from Japan. Gone are the four body zippers, there are two continuous ones per side with double sliders. The wings detach via single zippers at the shoulder, making donning the rig a 20 second job.

The bottom line is that if you go in with one of my suits, chances are that once the blood is off the suit, it can be put on e-bay as "slightly used"!

My instructors and dealers are still EGIs, now Extra Gay Instructors.

I make 10 dollars per hour building the suits (which is 2.75 more than I get paid for teaching in college!), so it's not about profits, it's about making the darn best suits in the univerzz! Fuck money!

Update:

Keep in mind this is a new design and one of the first suits of the line...

So the first suit didn't fit. I was experiencing control issues that I hadn't seen in prior suits. I blame the fit. Nick was having some machine issues etc. and it just wasn't working out. So Nick cuts me a new suit, no questions asked after tweaking his process and refining the measurements. (Pictures attached)

Took it out this weekend and put a few jumps on it - here are my thoughts on it.

1. The ease of flight I find in Nick's suits is back. He didn't stitch the back of the arm wing to the body, allowing it to shape better without restriction. On a 182 dive-out exit, I was able to just start flying. MUCH more control in the arm wings. Flies itself.

2. On exit, the new leg wing design (which is very aggressive and very fast) kicks you more vertical than the old RM. But it's not just catching air and flipping you over, it's pressurizing and shooting you out of a cannon - you can feel it. You're accelerating back toward the field before you're off the hill. Impressive.

3. Control range - there's a ton of it. Pitch down for speed pushes air under my very tight goggles and the speed is stupid. Raise the chest and the forward speed drops on a dime. Not squirrelly, very controllable.

4. Turns - I'm used to my turns being a little halted. Like you're tweaking yourself around the corner - trying to balance on a razor edge between not enough and too much pitch. With this suit, the turns are very smooth. Drop a shoulder and turn like an airfoil should.

All in all my initial impression is very good. Nick added a little wing (there's plenty) and the reach is completely unencumbered. I would feel comfortable taking this suit off of a fixed object once I get used to the very aggressive (head-low) angle of attack.
