Default Travel Insurance

Going on my first Base trip to europe and wondered what company is best for base when it comes to medical coverage. I will be jumping in Spain.

ihi BupaÂ*-Â*Buy your insurance online

I asked for a call back to discussed non authorized jumps (say from a B where maybe I should not be etc) and they assured me 100% cover, there is no limit to medical expenses and if you go in your nearest and dearest get £42K
They have a few bolt on options and I think my policy was around £150 for 12 months.
The only down side that I can see is you are not covered in your country of residence and trips are limited to 1 month at a time unless you buy extra days.

Amex actually has an insurance on the card: If you are injured a minimum of 50 miles from home, Amex insurance will pay to get you to a hospital close to where you live. So, if you are in France and you break your leg, instead of getting the doctors in France to pin your leg, have Amex fly you home, and pin it to you rgular doctor.

I was actually in France and used this trick years ago. Not ideal, but your isYOUR Doctor, is Doctor.

Having accompanied someone who used IHI (ihi.com), I can wholeheartedly and without reserve recommend them. From the first [rather squalid] hospital, I called IHI and the first words out of the agent's mouth after asking about the condition of my friend was "let's get your friend moved to a better hospital". After a weather-related delay, we were on our way and soon found ourselves in a two-room suite at a rate cheaper than my hotel room.
Beyond covering the medical expenses, IHI flew my friend's parents over from the US, put them up in a hotel, gave them a hefty per-diem and I believe upgraded all seats on the flight home.
The coverage was amazing, but I was absolutely astounded by the attentiveness and professionalism of everyone I spoke with at IHI. You NEVER get that level of service in the US when it comes to insurance companies paying out/providing coverage.

I have heard great things about IHI and just booked it. Thanks for all the input. 85 U.S. dollars for the entire trip. Its a no brainer.

I would take it seriously; but it's serious and ridiculous at the same time. -sl
