My cyber-robbery / hack in April

Here is why I am not going to make it to TF:

On April 10th, my dedicated server, hosted with Servepath.com was compromised and began a 400% increase in bandwidth usage from normal. I was in the middle of educational studies for a test date of April 20th, so I was not aware of the intrusion and bandwidth increase. On April 17th, Servepath finally sent me an email warning that I had high utilization, at which time I immediately shut down the network connection to stop the bandwidth being stolen and to investigate. In the 7 days of the 400% increase, a total of 4,500+ GB of data transfer occurred, and is being billed at $5,700 from Servepath.

There is a plan they have that allows 4,00GB per month that costs $1,199 per month, and they are totally unwilling to allow me to pay that amount and be done with the issue. At least that is a more manageable amount to suck up than $5,700.

So I am trying to negotiate a feasible amount, but it looks like I am still going to be locked into a LARGE server for 12 more months.

Cause their 'Terms of Service' state they basically dont care. They only care about getting paid.

Yes it does suck because I mentioned I did not have that kind of cash. They hung up, and called the collections company on me the same day. Then I went back Friday to discuss a non-collections avenue, and they gave me until Wednesday, then I will again be sent to an outside Collections department.

I have had a DONATION button up at the top for OVER a year.

I have had less than 8 total donation in that time.

    donated.

Everyone reading this forum needs to click that link and send at least $20 once for the year. There's no rules, it's totally jumper based and we don't really have much advertising. Mick puts in tons of time, and a few other of us put in some work as well. None are looking to make money but we can't ask Mick to float a $5700 bill!

What's $20? The wiki app will be organized soon and wiki-style editable. This site is a great resource that ours to lose.

I feel special. I got thanked twice though I only donated once.

Now Abbie can come down to "Shari's" and buy me breakfast.

Re: My cyber-robbery / hack in April

I totally appreciate it everyone. A few have even talked about how you donated to Shane and Scott.

I tell you what. I would RATHER you donate your money to those 2 families that truly need it. Trust me, this expense totally kicks my ass and hurts pretty bad, but it is nothing compared to what those other 2 families are dealing with.

If you want to actually know what is on my WISH LIST of things I want donated:
    1. Donate Videos
    2. Donate Images
    3. Donate Content for the BASE Wiki
    4. Get everyone BASE to BLiNC Magazine!!!!
    5. Send me a postcard ;-)
The reason is this: I am stuck with this server now for 12 more months. All year so far, I average 90,000 hits per day, and only 36GB of traffic out. This server has an allotment of 1,500gb per month. So I need to use up 1,460gb EACH AND EVEY MONTH.

Does dz.com support causes on the ad banners for free? NO
