Prospective BASE Campers,
I recently participated in Johnny's BASE Camp and thought some comments may be helpful to anyone considering his upcoming course.
Prior to the course:
1. We had an international group for our course: Milwaukee, England, Ireland. Johnny maintained an email dialogue with us all prior to the course, suggesting tips for travel, lodging, packing list, and other logistics. This proved helpful and ensured we arrived in Twin Falls ready to learn.
2. We all received DVDs with course materials to review and practice prior to the course. The DVDs covered BASE pack jobs, BASE problems, and introduced other concepts. Review this material and practice your pack jobs prior to arriving - everyone will get more out of the course.
During the course:
1. Johnny provided a great BASE notebook. The notebook contained a course outline, lessons on BASE concepts, stories to highlight BASE scenarios, reference material, discussion points, etc.
2. Johnny's got energy and is passionate about BASE. Plan on working hard throughout the course. He spent morning until night with us each day of the course and packed in lots of didactic material, hands-on review, and practical application.
3. Johnny's style was to keep the course moving, but to review frequently. And every time someone in the group asked a good question, Johnny stopped the action and got everyone in on the discussion.
4. We had variable weather throughout the course, but no one left without making at least 9 jumps. Johnny supervised and filmed all the jumps and gave each of us a great debrief on every leap.
After the course:
1. I've had nothing short of friendly and helpful responses to the questions I've shot Johnny's way.
Course warning:
1. If, during dinner one night, Johnny mentions something called the "Tequila Stuntman", you should disappear into the restroom until the shenanigans are over with.
Thanks for a great time, Johnny. I hope you have a blast with the next group!
Cheers,
Chris

Whats a Tequila Stuntman???
She said she was 16.
Tequila Stuntman: [tuh-kee-luh stŭnt'mān]
-noun
1. A specific technique for imbibing shots of tequila, whereby the imbiber acquires the standard shot of tequila, slice of lime, and salt, but uses these items in the stuntman fashion: the salt is arranged in a line on the bar or table, in the same fashion cocaine is normally arranged on a table or stripper's cleavage. The slice of lime is held in the left hand. The shot of tequila is held in the right. The imbiber snorts the line of salt, drinks the shot of tequila with celerity, and squeezes the juice of the lime into his eye.
-origin unknown
Note: I can tell you from experience this hurts. And if you're going to do it, keep some tissue nearby. You'll be blowing your nose.
Sub-Note: I'm a non-drinker, so Johnny made me do the Espresso Stuntman, which at 1:00AM made it pretty hard to go to bed afterward.

I once did the stuntman on a boat called the William Thornton (Willey T) off the coast of Norman Island in the British Virgin Islands....much to the chagrin of the snotty yachties who probably have never even had bad tequila.
I've done them about a dozen times and it's always a good time! It's like a saline rinse for your sinus cavities and a burning hot branding iron for your eyeball. It's great!
Geez, Chris. Need someone to wipe your ass for you for free too?![]()
Make the castle pay for it.
