I am pretty sure its country resident specific, and the best answers may come from the UK BASE forum as you are in the Midlands (I assume the Midlands UK).
I looked at IHI a while back for private health insurance in Australia and they would provide cover, but it was pretty pricey (although for anyone to cover this sort of stuff, I guess you gotta be willing to pay for it).
Only downside is I'm pretty sure that if you're injured while being involved in an illegal activity, then you're on your own...
I recommend seven corners, at least for US citzens traveling abroad they are very good. USed tyo be called SR! speciality risk international.

I have not had to use their coverage but a friend of mine did in Malaysia and she ended up with top notch coverage, very impressive. Highly recommended, many of us in the states use this. For example on a recent trip to Switzerland, for 16 days a 1 milion dollar comprehensive policy with $500 deductible was about $30. The specifically cover Base jumping and include evacuation, flight back to states or home country if needed, etc etc.

I too had the same problem but your posting helps me to take right decision...
Thanks for the posting...

I recently read an article about a Utah-based company called XSI. They were featured in Skiing magazine. I've been researching their policies, but haven't purchased one yet.

Johnny,
I've purchased travel and evacuation insurance from ihi Bupa before, but I wasn't aware they sold health insurance to international customers. Have you purchased an actual health policy from them?
Incidentally (for the wider audience), when I have worked with ihi Bupa, I have had great experiences with the process of getting a policy and with customer service. I once had to cancel a policy for a trip that didn't happen, and my premium (minus a small fee) was returned promptly. I have not had to make a claim, so I can't comment on that, but in all other respects ihi Bupa has been easy to work with. (Note, they're on the east side of the pond, so it can take a day to hear back if you email.)

I have been on the sharp end (though not personally as the injured party) of an incident involving IHI, requiring their assistance. I'd been a customer of theirs previously and was on that trip, as well. But they won me forever that afternoon and in the following days. Their assistance went beyond what I've grown to expect of insurance companies. Not only did I sense a genuine concern for the wellbeing of their insured client, but they proved it by having them transported to the best hospital in the area, by flying the injured party's parents over, putting them up and covering EVERYTHING.
Where I generally view insurance companies with a fair bit of disdain, they break the mold.

yes I bought a year medical policy that covers all travel outside the USA. I travel a lot so for me it was very reasonable, a no brainer really. I have US health insurance that covers me abroad, but I still got IHI because it's inexpensive. I should have got the "all other that can go wrong" policy as well, but I didn't and then my car got robbed in Barcelona. I lost. before my next trip I added that policy as well (like $100 for a year).
