DELTA — A Missouri man who has been missing in Millard County for more than a week was found Thursday.


The body of LeRoy Buckley, 31, of Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., was found in the Notch Peak area of Millard County after an eight-day search. Officials said the search began Sept. 9 after Kurt Gregory, 44, of Twin Falls, Idaho, with whom Buckley was BASE jumping, activated a distress signal.


Gregory said the two men were hoping to BASE jump, which involves jumping from a fixed object with a packed parachute, from Notch Peak and had hiked to the base of the mountain. Buckley was walking along a ledge when he disappeared. Gregory said he was unable to find Buckley, and once his water supply ran out he activated his distress beacon.


Officials from the Millard County Sheriff's Office were able to locate Gregory and get him out of the area using a Utah Department of Public Safety helicopter. Search-and-rescue teams then began looking for Buckley but were unable to find him until Thursday.


No further details regarding the recovery of Buckley's body or how the man died were available Friday.
