A dude from Squaw Valley decided to go BASE jump the Forrest Hill bridge in Auburn, CA for the first time on the night of October 12th, 2011. He jumped at 10:48 pm, threw his ‘chute, didn’t see a huge pine tree, and got stuck in it 60 feet off the deck.

After hanging there for 90 minutes, dude decided to call 911 on himself. A search & rescue team was able to find him by 12:40 am.

The Placer Country Sheriff’s Office search & rescue team dropped a deputy down on a line from a helicopter to dude and was able to hook him in and pluck him out. It was a sketchy rescue as the rotor wash from the heli wrapped the parachute around dude and damn near blew the parachute outta the tree. The deputy ended up tying dude in, cutting all the cords of the parachute, and pulling him outta the tree safely.

Once safe, dude went to jail and was charged with “unsafe activity” in a state park. It looks like dude will also have to pay for all the heli time and the search and rescue bill. Ouch. How much do you think dude’s bill will be?
