The 37 year old base jumper, whose ID has not been released to the press, was recovered by the helicopter of the Dragon des Pompiers to with a SMUR (Service Mobile Emergency and Resuscitation) team on board.
Then he was transported by the PGHM to the Centre Hospitalier Alpes Leman near Contamine-sur-Arve.
It is thought that the base jumper lost control of the chute immediately after it opened and spun into the rock face where he sustained serious injuries to both of his legs.
Magland is located about a 20 minute drive from Chamonix. It takes another 10 minutes to drive to the top and then 30 minutes to walk to the launch. A 500 meter limestone wall is the challenge that extreme sports fans are seeking.
