A 23-year-old Long Grove man died while base jumping off a cliff in the Snake River Canyon near Twin Falls, Idaho, authorities said today.
“He was friendly and has a lot of friends out here,’’ said Jerome County Sheriff Douglas McFall, of Adam Rubin, who was from Long Grove.
“Unfortunately, the area where he jumped is at a high risk level. There’s not a lot of margin for error,’’ McFall said.
McFall, who occasionally pilots planes for skydivers, said the incident occurred 7:45 p.m. Friday off a cliff in the Snake River Canyon near the Perrine Memorial Bridge on U.S. 93, which runs over the Snake River.

Rubin had been staying with a friend in Twin Falls for about the last month in order to do base jumps, said McFall. Rubin was with two others but he’d jumped first.
“He went off a canyon wall, and they are not ideal, and his parachute opened at 180 degrees, that made him head directly back,’’ instead of forward, said McFall.
at took him right back into the wall behind him, he was not able to steer away,’’ McFall said. “After colliding with the wall, the chute partially collapsed and he fell down the
cliff some distance,’’ said McFall. The plunge was at least “a couple of hundred feet,’’ McFall said.
He was badly injured, and by the time his fellow base jumpers got to him, he died, said McFall.
McFall said Rubin was easygoing and “like most of these base jumpers they live a little bit on the wild side.’’
