    NPS permit request address?

What is the address or department where I should direct requests to to jump in our parks? I cant very well write my representative and say I cant jump if I havent attempted to get a permit first.

Have other people applied for permits ? what results and type of response did you get from our wonderful NPS. I assume this should be my first attempt to help the get the laws changed. Any other opinions

    Thanks

    RE: NPS permit request address?

You need to direct your correspondence to the attention of the Superintendent of the park you wish you visit. Here's the one I've used for Yosemite:

    Superintendent
    Yosemite National Park
    P.O. Box 577
    Yosemite, CA 95389

Consider sending your letter certified with a return receipt. It makes them sign for it and who knows, the receipts may be worth something when you begin contacting law makers.

The last response I got (a while ago now) was:
"Yosemite National Park is not issuing permits for base jumping within the park. That activity continues to be prohibited and that prohibition is not expected to change."

JB has a nice denial WAV file:

I never recieved any kind of response to a formal written request for a permit that I submitted six months ago. I think lack of a denial should be interpreted as an approval, don't you think?

    RE: NPS permit request address?

I assume it was sent by trackable means with a return receipt? :) Just like 346 mentioned. That way when push comes to shove you can prove that you did request the permit.

This would be a good way to put credibility to our argument that they are not conducting themselves in a professional or user friendly manner.

THANKS for the sample - 346

    RE: NPS permit request address?

I sent my last letter over a year ago now. I did not receive a response from that one. I assume they just get "filed away" now. That's just more reason to get a receipt...

If the NPS and their vendors don't want my vacation dollars, that's fine. I am more than happy to take my money to BASE friendly countries. Let the NPS deal with their budget cutbacks..

I better stop now. I feel a rant starting...

I think that is the only possible interpretation.

As for me, the last time I visited the park, as i got my receipt from the gate guard on entry, he said "Thank you, enjoy the park".

You know, I DID enjoy that park!!!!!!!

Guess what I used for my qualifying nite rock jump?

Yeah, I'm sure Yosemite will be hurting from the 20 or so BASE jumpers who decide to bypass all that beauty because they can't jump it! Christ dude, have you seen the valley floor lately? It's friggin wall to wall. Face it folks, we have NO $$ impact on anyplace, except maybe a hotel or two in Twin Falls... probably the only place we have an impact is with Don n' Burt. Maybe we should boycott them until we are allowed to jump in Yosemite!! YES! Let's get this organized!
