    Sub 160' freefalls with pins

    Three words:

    spectra closing loops

Be ultra careful about premature extraction esp with a single pin rig.

For 160'-200' dacron closing loops are fine as long as you are careful with the pin tension when you are geared up (testing pin tension before you put the rig on is pointless).

RE: Sub 160' freefalls with pins

Have you tried (or considered trying) loops made of Cypres closing loop material?

It's poly-ethylene. I've found it to be superior to Spectra in reducing pull forces on tight reserve packjobs, so I figured it would work better here, too.

    What'cha think?

I am currently using Cypres closing loops for closing my Prism (1 pin rig) rigs, both for terminal and for "jump and pull" jumps. This way, I feel that my fears for a "total" are vanished. I have measured (with a scale)an extraction force (with rig donned and webbing tight) of 1 to 2 kg (2 to 4 lb). Still, using Cypres closing loops even for terminal jumps make me feel confident about my gear setup because of the very secure protection given to the loop itself by the pin cover flap on Prism's.
    Just my 0.02.
