    Next year we will add a new concept to World BASE Race.

    At final day, for those who is not part of the competition anymore we will let the 10 best jumpers do a additional competition.

    Single exits from Raven exit point
    Fly a route down to the road, pass a key point, and fly straight up the road 90 right, pass the finish line on time. Minimum have 40 sec canopy time. Then we will add a new challenge for the race, and a new way to prove their flying abilities.

    This year I will fill first apply for a WBR round from Labben at Stabbeveggen in Troll Wall. I will try to negotiate for making the 3, 4 roound from there. Hopefulle one day we will have go. The reason is that we can legally open that part of wall, since there is not the same scenario with a rescue in that area, as in the Main Trollwall.

    However, is there anybody who is willing to make a coment on the new kind of competition? Does it apply for any of you, if you are knocked out of the main race to continue to make a individuall race, that takes a bit different skills to manage?

    I love what you're doing with the WBR. Can't comment either way on the new kind of competition. I don't have enough experience to add that value. I do look forward to being there next year, though.
    I think it's admirable the effort and success you've put into and gotten from the WBR. Keep up the good work.

    I really wanted to be there this year, but I didn't make it. I'm looking forward to next year as this looks like an utterly Kick Ass event! Looks like a good time to be had by all.

    World BASE Race The World Base Race safety policy
    Regulations and guidelines to keep a minimum incident level

    “Safety rules”


    The following rules are created to lower the risk for injuries and to keep the participants from unnecessary high risk behavior and ignorant attitude towards safety. It’s in all our interest to pull this off without incidents and it’s our mutual responsibility to act professional and safe.

    1. Participants
    1.1 Equipment
    1.1.1 Suits being used for jumping in the WBR should be manufactured by a well known and qualified brand that is available on the market. Minor modifications can be accepted individually and has to be reported to the safety crew before participating.
    1.1.2 All participants will use a helmet
    1.1.3 Parachute equipment (rig, parachute, pilot chute, bridle etc.) should be specifically created for BASE jumping from terminal cliffs and should be in a shape acceptable for terminal flights.
    1.1.4 Wing suits and parachute gear should be prepared for wing suit flying in a safe way. I.E. Bridle shrivel flaps etc.
    1.1.5 All additional equipment that is being used during jumping should be well known by the participant from earlier use. The participant has to be well experienced with the equipment being used in the competition.

    1.2 Experience level
    It’s the participant’s responsibility to show that experience- and safety level is clearly satisfying to participate in the competition. There will be no exact border for experience level, but the level of experience and safety will be evaluated individually on the participant’s results and attitude during the warm up jumping or by the organizers earlier experience from the participant. Generally, the level should be high and we look for well experienced wing suit pilots with experience from terminal wing suit flying, with a long experience in using wing suits and the expected equipment for such jumping.
    The special circumstances that a big competition, with audience and media creates will put a much higher level of stress on the participants. All this can contribute to push the jumper out of his/hers comfort zone for the participant and it’s therefore very important that the participant is well comfortable with his own abilities to perform a safe and controlled jump.

    1.3 Competition safety rules
    All jumping during the competition and the warm up week will be evaluated by the safety team. Every example of uncontrolled performance, unsafe acting or risk ignorant attitude could result in suspension from the competition. The safety team has the right to suspend any participant that doesn’t follow these rules or shows an inappropriate attitude. Generally, all minor incidents could cause a suspension, especially if the incident is caused by bad evaluation or attitude from the participant. This means for example that tree landings, water landings or any flying or landing outside of the landing zone WILL cause a suspension. If the landing outside of the LZ is caused by an equipment factor, environment factor or other factors that can clearly be divided from human factors, the safety team might consider to keep the participant in the competition. This can be individually decided, only if the cause is clearly related to equipment or environmental factors. Off course combined with the participant’s over all safe behavior and attitude.

    General demands for an approved jump.

    1.3.1 Exit
    The exit should be controlled and performed straight out in the given direction for the jumper. Show respect for the participating competitor on your side jumping at the same time.

    1.3.2 Free fall
    The participant should fly stable and with good technique to maintain lift and airspeed. Keep your given line to give space for your fellow competitor. Keep distance from each other.

    1.3.3 Parachute opening
    The line for finishing the race and to get your goal time, is located higher up in the talus of the mountain, to give both competitors space to lower horizontal and vertical speed and to pull at secure altitude. There should not be a reason to fly lower or longer than needed. Make sure to pull high enough to give you good margin to make the landing zone. Pay attention to your fellow competitor to your side and pull with a good distance from him/her. Be ready to maneuver away from the other jumper and/or obstacles.

    1.3.4 Flying the parachute
    Once in a fully pressurized parachute, start flying with the toggles and be ready to maneuver away from the other jumper and/or obstacles. Fly calm, controlled, and predictable. Give good space for the other jumper and show your intentions clearly on landing order.

    1.3.5 Landing
    Keep to the landing order and keep distance from the other jumper. Make the set up for landing controlled and calm. No hook turns or aggressive flying. Land in a straight set up line on to the landing zone with good distance from the audience. Would you in any case have you choose between landing unsafe in the landing zone, with a risk of injuring yourself or others, prioritize to keep away from injuries by landing in the water or outside the landing zone. Take the suspension and be happy to have saved yourself. Were you by any chance pushed out by the other jumpers flight pattern and behavior, the safety team will individually decide if you should continue jumping and/or to suspend the other jumper.

    Any step from these rules will result in suspension from the competition.

    1.4 Jumping outside of the competition
    All jumping being done from the mountain of Gridsetskolten, during the time of the warm up week and the competition week, including all exit points will be held under the regulations of the organization. This means that all jumping from Gridsetskolten that does not follow the regulations of the WBR competition can result in suspension even if the jumps weren’t made within the competition. Jumping from other mountains will not be considered as a part of the event and will not be evaluated by the safety team. Some jumps can be monitored by the safety team in order to assure safety and skills level from a safer cliff than Gridsetskolten. This will off course be done under an agreement between the actual jumper and the organization.

    1.5 Evaluating of the weather conditions
    The weather in the Norwegian fjords is unpredicteable and sometimes violent. It’s a combination of mountain and sea weather, which can result in strong winds, rain, cold, turbulences, but also hot sun all in a mix, during one day. Be prepared for the weather and listen to the locals about preparation, equipment and good decisions. The safety team will, in cooperation with the organization and the participants decide if the weather conditions are good enough for jumping. This means that the safety team can stop the jumping at any time, and start it over again. This also means that the participants them self always can decide NOT to jump, even if the competition is open. If participants jump during a “non jump” period, determined by the safety team, the participant will be suspended. If a jumper decides not to jump because of weather conditions during an “open jumping” period, and climbs down, the jumper will lose the round but will instead be saluted with showing great character and courage.

    2. Audience

    2.1 General rules
    All participants will work together with the organization to show the sport and the jumpers in a good spirit, as a controlled and safety aware group of people. It’s in our interest that audience and media gets to see the best of the best compete and to see that we can do it with safety, fellowship and joy as the main foundation.
    2.2 Audience and media will be located all around the landing zone and we will not control the way the audience move outside of the landing area. The LZ will be emptied from audience and media during the time of jumping. Landing outside the landing zone will result in suspension. At all times prioritize to avoid the audience. Rather land in the water, the trees than flying close to the audience. Rather hurt yourself than hurt o non jumper. They are not informed about the risks and might not be ready to take it.

    2.3 Audience can be located on the exit zone. There will be no regulations for the audience and the media up there but help us to inform non jumpers about the risk of standing to close to the edge and don’t be afraid to ask all people on the exit nicely to keep back and give you the space you need for jumping safely.

    3. Organization and information

    3.1 Information
    Information about the regulations will be given to all participants to read before attending to the compulsory safety briefing being held the day before the warm up week and the day before the competition. All jumpers will read, accept and sign the safety rules (this folder) to participate in the competitions. If you disagree with any of the safety rules in this information folder, the safety team is open to discuss this matter in order to correct anything that we can consider as an incorrect regulation.

    3.2 Safety and rescue plan.
    WBR will work together with the local rescue department. Trained and equipped personal will be at the landing zone. Two (2) rescue boats will be located outside the landing zone for efficient dual rescue capacity. The local hospital will be informed along with the search and rescue department.

    3.3 In case of an incident
    3.3.1 Organizing the incident scenario
    In case of an incident, the situation will be organized by the safety team and the organization. It’s important that the situation being taken care of from one group with a plan. Therefore we need the participants to respect the organizations plan and accept to demise the task to the WBR organization.
    3.3.2 Response towards media and audience questioning
    During an incident scenario questions will be asked from the audience and the media regarding the ongoing event. It’s very important that we all keep a united line towards the audience and especially the press. Therefore it’s essential that all questions should be answered by the WBR organization press officer. Participants should therefore in all situations refer to the press officer when being asked questions from press and audience.
    3.3.3 Jumpers objectives during the incident organizing
    In case of an incident, jumping will be temporary closed with no delay. Jumpers on the exit point will step back from the exit and wait further directions. The person being responsible for the exit point radio, will function as the leader of the exit point group, and will organize any further directions from the organization. The jumping might be permanently stopped or get started within a short period.
    The jumpers on the ground waiting will gather together for a first briefing on the situation. On the briefing the organization will present any needs for help with covering the situation.
    3.3.4 Participants family/friends information
    All participants will fill out a contact information form regarding their closest relatives. The information might be needed in case of an incident. Participants traveling together will inform the organization about this, to make an incident situation easier.
